First time I've been jealous of Palmerston North!!! 
Thought I would post an update here to say that my UFB in Palmy has been connected and to say thank you to Bigpipe, Chorus and their contractors Broad Spectrum for making the whole process so hassle free.
I ordered my upgrade from VDSL to UFB on 24 May, the same day I got notification that my street was good to go for UFB. Bigpipe came back promptly and within two hours of ordering I had the dates and times for the scoping (7 June) and install (13 June) visits.
On May 27 I got a call from Chorus so say that they had some earlier dates available, so we settled on 28 May for scoping and 7 June for installation.
Throughout the entire process the communication from all parties was excellent. Bigpipe sent connection details with my new static IP address after I signed up, and sent emails every time they received new information from Chorus regarding dates.
The scoping guy was brilliant. I already had clear in my mind where I wanted everything to go and he agreed, draw up his plans, I signed the agreement and he left. 30 minutes later I got an email with a copy of the plans, for my reference.
My only gripe was install day, which was a bit of a stuff up. The installer was late so I called Broad Spectrum to find out where he was, they contacted him and said he was held up on his previous job. The guy showed up two hours late, however he apologised and explained that his previous job had a broken fibre and they had to re-blow it.
Anyway, he got my install done without issue, I plugged my Mikrotik in and boom, UFB.
(Speedtest was done later that evening, I had to get back to work once the install was done).
