Mattmannz:

Surely the Kapiti market is ripe to have Vodafone's cable domination taken off them based on the poor performance over the last 12 months.

VDSL2 coverage is pretty good in both Waikanae and Paraparaumu and that's been pretty minimal uptake, so I don't see fibre making a significant difference.

There are quite a few premises that have had the Telecom cable cut from their property when they were converted to TCL/Vodafone (me included) so they cannot access Telecom services without paying a reinstatement fee so there is no VDSL available for me.

Many of these have handover in a bigger area, eg Waiheke in Auckland, and Fielding in Palmerston North, so it doesn't take more work to serve there.

You still have to have another handover, at a higher cost and not available for all areas. They are not handed over on the major city handover.

For Waiheke, the options for handover are GLF/MDR, same as everywhere in Auckland? Same with Fielding and PN handover?

I live on Waiheke, and am quite (make that very) glad that we have UFB. Not sure why they rolled out so early on Waiheke, but I do know that they did FTTN on the Island a very short time ago, so maybe pushing it out to the premises from there wasn't too difficult (Most of it is aerial, strung on power poles. The fibre to my place comes down off the pole and underground to the house. I'm on Bigpipe and loving the speed.
