wazzageek: I thought it was pretty neat, Dad reconnecting with daughter. It was funny to see the "spot" dog on the couch.

Of course, it has us all associating the ad with spark and talking about it ...

I suspect that is what it is about, like that terrible rapping ad they did a few years ago, which got people talking. I totally missed 'Spot the dog'. Maybe they should bring back those ones, as there is a move to bringing back childhood 80's things.
It did have a Once were warriors feel to it too, maybe they are going to do a big series of ads with the same actors, telling their story, and how they use Spark to setup a successful business, and they finally manage to buy an average million dollar house in Auckland?

I have to say I wasn't taken in by the story, the way I see it.

Father doesn't want his daughter to dance, watches some videos while being a slack-ass at work then dances with his daughter. Just when you think the ad has no point what so ever a Spark logo appears... The ad still has no point what so ever.

You watched it, it did its job.

Silly me, here was I thinking the job of an ad was to sell stuff. That ad certainly wouldn't sell Spark to me.

I hadn't seen it so just went to YouTube and the one minute version of "Big Tony has a moment of connection with his daughter through Spark" was top of the list, with nearly 34,000 views, so people are obviously thinking about it (job done, Colenso). But until the last three seconds, the ad could have been about anything - family violence, workplace health and safety, not driving distracted...

What will the next one be? Big Tony's dad uses Skype to watch his granddaughter dance; ad looks like a paedophile hacker filming a little girl in her room by taking control of her laptop camera over a UFB connection. I apologise - that is over the top. But it makes about as much sense.

Uses Sparks services to download / stream the music video, which he can do no matter where he is because Spark is everywhere, so he can learn the dance moves his daughter was doing.

It's pretty hard to understand when the ad is actually playing; you have to wait until it finishes then try to piece it together. I don't think many people are invested enough in the little videos that interfere with watching their favourite shows to make the effort.

If the ad had started showing the daughter going on Spotify to find the song, then dad doing the same thing later (struggling a little at first because, y'know, middle-aged technophobe stereotype, but not struggling too much because it has to look easy), then I'd get it. As it is, you have to look really closely to even see the father is using his phone at work. If you thought he was listening to the song on an iPod it would make no sense whatsoever.
