surfisup1000: I cancelled all of my telecom and spark services but then xtra email address still works just fine.

So, maybe it is free now? Surely no one would pay for an email address these days.... I stopped using the xtra account mostly anyway... Just check once or twice a month in case an old colleague tries to contact me.

No it's not free. You were obviously lucky cancelling your account and either not facing this charge and the account not being cancelled.

I have a few clients who have been through this scenario over the years.  They've all changed ISP and all told by Telecom/Spark they would loose their @xtra.co.nz email address when they closed their accounts with an offer of the $20/month to keep it active.  However only a few did have that email service cut.  Others just continued passively using that mailbox.

That said I haven't had any clients move from Spark in recent months or had any casual follow up recently so Spark may have clamped down since.

Resurrecting this post... Does anyone know the current status for hanging onto an @xtra.co.nz email while being with another ISP?

What about for someone who is about to leave Spark and wants to keep it. Do they have to phone? Or any otherway?

If someone is looking to leave, this is a consideration to have to make.

I'll ask the question as I don't really have a baseline on expectations to comment on further.

I assume it's not possible to close your Spark account and get a friend to create the same xtra email on their Spark connection for free(iirc upto 10 email @xtra emails can be made)?

I also assume Spark don't offer free email forwarding like other ISP's(actrix, orcon etc) since they don't run their own email service in-house but worth asking.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Email accounts can be transferred.

Forwarding does still cost for the inbox.
Pretty sure spark has never offered forward to your new provider as a service. Sure you could do it. But the terms always said you require an active service.

hio77: Email accounts can be transferred.

Quote from Spark email:

Link it - If you have Spark Broadband on another account, you can link up your Xtra Mail email and keep using it on us

So my 70yr old cousin who only has an iPhone small data package and an xtra email account (from previous internet days) can have her present xtra email account linked onto my full Spark Mobile & Broadband & xtra email account ? She really does not want to pay $5.95/mth on the pension nor does she (me in other words) want the hassle of changing email addresses and letting everyone know.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
