Why? Because I could never imagine that VDSL speeds can be on-par or worse than ADSL. This was a nasty surprise.
What is a prequal?

the latency more than doubled from 15ms to 35ms+.
How do you measure this one? My modem stats page (above) does not give this figure.
Latency (ping) is measured by speed testing:
For example, in this test on a 100Mbps VF cable connection, my latency was 8ms.
It's important to specify which server you are testing against - in this case it was Vodafone Wellington - the closest server to my home.
Sideface
I generally just use a windows command prompt and ping various servers.
I use linetest.nz primarily. E.g. "ping -n 10 linetest.nz".
Speed test are good too as that test latency as well as up down speeds.
I go with the Auckland servers because the latency is usually much higher to my closest location (Wellington) and the results are typically more reliable.
Another way is an actual ping test which also includes tests for line jitter and packet loss giving a final grade to your current connection.
When you run this test it establishes the best location for testing based on best ping. For me this is always somewhere around Auckland.
Not the best test, ping is a little higher than usual because my boys are no doubt streaming videos and voice chatting while gaming etc.... LOL

My current ADSL sync rate, speed test and ping test.
This time without the 4 other family members using the net. In otherwords and Ethernet isolation test.
VDSL for our connection was only a few Mbps faster on the download, otherwise ADSL continues to be better here than VDSL.
I think our best option is to stay on ADSL until UFB2 gets here.

@zespri Your reality is that your VDSL performance is worse than ADSL.
As others have said, this has nothing to do with your ISP, and everything to do with line length.
Go back to ADSL.
