Surely any new installs after the 1st should be gigabit since there will be no upgrade needed?

Yes :)

(Assuming you are on the Elite plan, naturally)

So it sounds like the perfect reason to change from some other ISP to bigpipe tomorrow then? :D Now if only I had fiber here.

I'm currently on BigPipe Pro (200/20) in Auckland (North Shore).

Would it make sense to upgrade to Elite in order to get the Gigabit update when it arrives?

Is there any update on timelines?

So what is "good equipment" Will the limitations be the router? Hardware between the users network and the internet?

for example, The maximum recorded internal network speeds I have seen are 870 down, 625 up. Does that mean that is the expected speeds? or substantially less?

Put through a request to update to the elite plan a few days ago but still showing only 200/20 speeds at the moment, hopefully hasn't gotten lost in all the excitement to get everyone switched over to gigabit :p

Yes, and its raining again so my internet will probably crap out even more thanks to the porous insulation that they put on cables in the distant past.

Just got the Upgrade email. Sadly it will not be complete for me until 6am tomorrow morning (1/10). I am absolutely gutted for having to wait that 6 hours (even longer as I will probably be asleep when it happens). Life sucks, people  :(

From the 3rd here. All good.
To be honest 200/200 is more than enough. Gigabit is just awesome.

I've sent the email onto my brothers in the UK, only to gloat. Little New Zealand, with some of the fastest internet access around the world.

Cheers bigPipe. Xxx

First thing tomorrow for me!

Now is a good chance to get your network up to spec also. If you've been eyeing up some UniFi wireless gear there is now a free UniFi cloud controller for Geekzone community members Here to take away the hassle of configuration. I'll likely write a post and update the routers thread once I have Gigabit to get the best out of your connection.

Just fingers crossed my network can handle the best possible speeds ;)
