Actually just noticed they currently have the first month free on Grabone so that should avoid having to pay twice.

This - we have an active promotion on grabone currently so suggest using that. Note that you wouldn't get charged for your monthly bill until your UFB connection was live (post-install), so you wouldn't be paying two bills for different providers either.

Thanks for the feedback. Have used the Grabone promotion and just signed up so now wait and see what happens. With the external work having been done when one of our neighbours got it hopefully that means it shouldn't take months waiting for consents. And with the free connection and free first month I guess there's no harm done if it doesn't work out for us and we end up cancelling. Will have to get used to not having a landline anymore, but we barely use it anyway and we have more than enough minutes with mobile plans for any calls we need to make. Will be a $25 a month saving from the Vodafone ADSL we have been on too.

Sadly we're stuck at the consent stage even though that was already done when one of the neighbours got connected and the external work has already been done for our house so it should only be the internal connection left to do. Would have thought Chorus would have a record of that, and not really sure why consents from neighbours are needed for work internal to our house that shouldn't impact on them, unless it's the fact that the Chorus van may need to be up the driveway for a few hours that's the issue. Or maybe it's because one of the houses just sold so there's a new owner who now needs to consent. Guess all we can do now is wait.

You can probably do a bit better than that - if you want to expedite things, the best thing by far to do is take the consent forms around to your neighbours yourself. You can grab 'em here. https://www.chorus.co.nz/broadband-options-for-home-fibre-consent-access/ - either take around the electronic forms on an iPad, or print out the forms, get them signed, and then scan and send to Chorus. I moved from VF last week, from a 100/100 plan to a Big Pipe 1000/500 plan.

Switch was very easy, router automatically changed from VF to Big Pipe at 0730 - so no internet interruptions.

And our VF business mobile manager has made it so our Sure Signal works through Big Pipe too.

This may sound strange, but I am looking forward to fixing any faults I may have via email rather than painful long voice conversations.

I believe we got two months free for signing up too.

And if the neighbours are tenants rather than owners won't it still rely on them bothering to pass it onto their landlords? I assume Chorus send the forms direct to owners because we never received anything when one of the neighbours had it done. In fact we were never even informed it was happening, we just got home from work one day and it had been done, including the external connection to our house. My issue is the consent process was completed when the neighbour got connected and the external work to our house was done as part of that so it's only a matter of doing the internal work for us so I don't understand why the consent process needs to begin again from scratch when any work the neighbours need to agree to has already been done.

Might be waiting on your landlord. We were quite specific when giving consent for our neighbours at the rental that I was not consent for internal wiring at out rental till we could be there with it happening.

I don't think so, as they have said they are happy for us to go ahead with it and just to let them know when they need to sign anything. Didn't give us any indication of not giving consent or say that nothing can be done without them being present, but I'll check with them whether they have received anything. One issue could possibly be that one of the houses was sold just before we signed up so I wonder if the forms could have been sent to the previous owner if the details Chorus had access to had not been updated yet. Don't know whether the person who moved in is the new owner or a tenant so should take the form around to them and ask.

Signs of progress this morning as someone from Chorus called me to say he was going to come and take measurements of the driveway today. Weirdly he had the wrong house number which would have been a few houses up the street and not one up our driveway so corrected that. Don't know whether Big Pipe put the order through for the wrong address or the contractor just wrote down the wrong number. Hopefully doesn't mean the wrong people were asked for consents.

Checked with Big Pipe and they said the address is correct in the Chorus database so no idea why the field engineer had the wrong number. Wonder if maybe the other house has also ordered it at the same time and they mixed up the 2 different numbers on the same street, although would have thought multiple houses in the same street would be pretty common for them as it becomes available. Just have to hope they didn't try to get consents from the wrong neighbours so it has to start again from scratch.

Also no idea how the process works but since we were out all day there is no indication as to whether guy came in the end.

Looks like they must have just mixed up the phone numbers for 2 orders in the same street as the other house (which is up a different shared driveway) appears to be having the connection laid up their driveway at the moment.

Have two Bigpipe connections, UFB 1000/500 at home and ADSL at my mancave - very happy with both.  A++++ would recommend.  Don't know anyone who has signed up and been disappointed!

Managed to speak to the neighbours from 2 of the 3 other houses up the driveway today (got no answer at the 3rd who is the one I believe was connected). Both were the owners and happy to give consent (one of them has only just moved in and said she wants to get it herself but hadn't got around to ordering yet as it "seems too much hassle") but neither had heard from Chorus yet so gave them the link to the online form and they said they would do it. So I guess it's been stuck at the consents stage for a month because noone has been asked for consent yet. I should probably have been more proactive and gone to talk to them sooner but I had thought that once you ordered Chorus asked the relevant people for consents but this hadn't happened yet.

Like me, one of them thought we had already had the external work done and said she had already given consent months ago when the other neighbour got it, but said she will fill out the online form again. Also said her ISP had told her they would be coming to connect fibre for her in January.

Will try the other house again and once I've spoken to them I've probably done all I can. Have also given the link to our landlord in case they hadn't received anything from Chorus yet either.

Found out someone I know works at Chorus and he offered to look into our order to see what was happening. So emailed him details which he passed on, then someone else contacted me to say they were still waiting for consents but they couldn't tell me whether or not they had received any yet and to wait until I hear an update from my provider.

Then tonight I finally received an email from Chorus saying they had received my order and will now be sending out letters to the other owners to ask for consents. So like most things in life, nothing happens until people get sick of you chasing it up. Took an internal escalation to even get to the stage that consents are being asked for. Could just be a coincidence, but seems odd nothing happened for 5 weeks until the day after someone I know who works there looked into it.
