Is a VF router.. I think all ISP's supply the HG659 though, so the firmware is probably the only difference. Cynical Chris wondered if the router could be setup to perform optimally for VF, and not for other ISP's..

The ping value from the game doesn't mean much. Most games have been not displaying this since it is a pure placebo and instead for troubleshooting providing some IP addresses to test to. That Blizzard guide is pretty good.

Well its going to tell him on a basic level if its a network issue or not. Green good, Red bad.

Looking into this...

First thing, AS4648 isn't just Spark Retail BB traffic - it covers a few providers.

Note that it's only a single 10G link and you're seeing there, there are a lot of links bringing in traffic. The congestion on this link seems isolated to last night and is a result of a significant spike in demand created at an upstream provider.

This was last night only (No issues for the previous week at least) and given the nature of the upstream activity there's no guarantee this won;t happen again on our links, and I bet that no provider would say any different.

This happens from time to time. We take reasonable economic measures to mitigate the impact, as do most providers.

Can't provide any more details for commercial reasons, but this isn't a reflection of any break or problem in our networks.

I can echo the same as @Talkiet.

Personally, i run both an ADSL and VDSL connection at home, One is spark the other is Vodafone.

Now I'm feel free to take this as a grain of salt given my workplace, however...

In terms of gaming to Blizzard servers (Overwatch in this case)

on Vodafone, i have interleaving off so a 9ms lower in Base ping, however noticable packet loss and/or Jitter.

On Spark, I have Interleaving on (ddDLM) so 9ms higher base ping, However no packet loss and minimal jitter.

Now, Blizzard being Blizzard is an interesting one.

I often notice their AU servers go down and we end up in US West.

As your unsure of which server you were on, this could come into it.

Is some random things happening with my Geekzone account, cant see the pg 2 posts (other than on my phone..), and wasn't able to log on for a few hours.. have seen the posts regarding traffic etc, and take the issues last night was pure bad timing for me to have swapped over.. Will confirm all good, or not tonight.. thanks for all the replies..

Lag not anywhere near as bad as last.. but not still anywhere as good as I have been used to on VF. Very variable with the majority of the time fine, then a patch of slowness..

150ms of jitter, sounds like something else at play....

the hop your seeing timeouts, has ICMP disabled on.

_never_ believe "in-game" ping. It's frequently some imaginary construct with only a tenuous connection to the network conditions.

All these tests were ran with live traffic going over it, so some jitter is to be expected.

Test's were all ran on the same router(terminates both connections) one after another to have a completely fair playing field.

Notable things i pluck out, when accounting for the latency increase from interleaving on my VDSL line, spark comes out a whole 28ms faster. This would be due to the routing on landing.

on the Sydney tests, the margin between both links is 1-2ms aka, margin of error basically.

Unfortunately, i do not play D3. I'm a PoE fan (I'm good friends with the main graphic designer so i've been in it since before it was announced...) I can't comment on my game performance however, i very highly suspect there has been another change that has happened that has made the RSP switch into a smoking gun.

That's the great thing about having two links, i can personally pick and choose depending on what i need/want.

Sure comes at a cost and i'd much rather secondary be elsewhere but splitting apart from GGI as a upstream is handy for those occasional things..

traceroutes essentially come down to proving there is no real difference (in some case you actually are gaining faster responses having moved to spark)

as such, still convinced, There is another factor at play here.
