Look at the pack the SIM card came in does it have a mobile number on it?

Just had a look on the back of the packing. Yes it does have a number on it so it's not blank.

Looks that way but I seem to remember that the 2D and Skinny SIMs also had number on the packaging.

Well then they are not blank SIM's either unless the only number printed is the actual SIM card number cause no way a blank SIM packaging will have a Mobile number printed on it

Give spark a call. Explain that this is a new SIM never used, they can remove/unlink the existing number assigned to it, essentially making it a blank SIM, that you can then transfer your number onto.
I've done this before successfully when I was in your position with no other options.
