I also note the part about using 180+ gigs per month, my olds are on the 240gb plan so I’m a bit reluctant to change them

I'm guessing this will be unavailable to people in areas with no fibre, and with wireless on a stop-sell?

How much data do your parents really use? do they just burst up once in a blue moon?

That rule is all about choosing the correct plan for the customer.

Product folk are keeping an eye out here, so the feedback is definitely appreciated.

Standard rules apply, If your currently on wireless and have reasonable coverage there is a process that can be used to change your offer.

It doesn't seem you can sign up to this online, and that they will call back within a week. It also looks to be about the same price (5 cents more) than their current plans, depending on what you select, although it is a little bit lacking of details. Also noticed that the 6 months half price offer for new customers seems to have  disappeared. I guess teh advatanage of this plan, is if you are away on holiday for a few months and not using the internet, your fee will reduce.

Yes, Online isn't quite ready. There is a back office process around it in the meantime where the reps will contact you back.

You have actually picked up on two of the advantages

  1. Price goes down when your away
  2. Everyone has the same price, Your not subsidising other signups or Entertainment Value adds

I assume that this plan will only be able to be billed the following month rather than in advance which is the norm for every other telco plan?

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Yes the way it's billed is a big part of it.

it's the first time spark has billed in at the end rather than upfront, can make for a bit of an interesting billing conversation.

There are a ton of edgecaes in that... what a nightmare to ensure it's right!

IFP's or delivery fee on modem on this  is the most typical time it will show up weird, being your first bill will be the initial payment without the plan cost.

All these end up with a conversation that should be had any time the product is sold, otherwise you have confusion down the track...

I just checked and they used 84gig in the past month with 1 day to go. I put them up on the 240gig plan when they invested in a new tv a few months back and I introduced them to Netflix. Wasn’t sure how much data the 4K programs were going to use so I played it safe.

Sounds to me like they will save a bit moving plans with plenty of leg room :)

It sounds like it, still needs some flexibility for when the grandson comes to visit and uses a lot of YouTube

And that's exactly where it works.

$75 normally, on months the grandson visits, even if he goes and drops double their usual.. price would only go up by $10 for that month then drop back to normal again.

*add 10$ for landline plus another if you go entertainment.

No bill shock.

grandparents aren't really the target market, but the plan also works exceptionally well for them.

Another thing that I’ve noticed is no Lightbox on the standard version of this, yet when I last checked we get free lightbox with our mobile plans

Yup, lightbox is only in the Entertainment pack, but if you already have it with mobile, you may not be interested in opting for a package with it.

Quite a few have it with their mobile and don't even know!
