Otherwise its pretty good with no loss at the far end.

Packet loss will cause your tcp packets to be retransmitted, slowing down the total throughput speed due to the tcp congestion control mechanisms. The acknowledgements may not get back and also be lost further contributing to retransmissions at various points along the path, further slowing down the sending of packets from the source end.

ping have you logged a fault as per Talkiet's request and forwarded him the details?

Also be interested in knowing if you get this sort of result 24/7 or whether it is only at certain times of day.

My views are my own, and may not necessarily represent those of my employer.

Yes, logged a fauly and passed on the details, have had a PM saying that they are unable to reproduce the same results...

the issue is there always, but I get one or two transfers at fast speed, then they all crawl at 11kbps or so....

It's worth noting, that's ftpes rather than ftp.

Doesn't change what dave and Neil are poking at but there are a few quirks depending on which daemon .cc is running

Quick question.

Are these single large files or folders with many many small 1-10kb files?
Have you tried downloading the exact same files from another FTP source like a local server?

There is a mixture..... it could be a folder of twenty 100MB rar files..., some are 2GB files, some are 5GB files.... only one or two 10kb files....

I have not tried a local FTP transfer, but have a sim card that I will test over 4G at Lunch time....

Please test both and let me know your experiences. Generally FTP will only transfer file after file sequentially, when you have a lot of smaller files it needs to drive a mechanical HDD which has a latency, then process and transfer the file, one by one. Give that theory a test..

Cheers

I have been using this FTP site for years with no issues... the problem only start a week or so ago... same sized files, same type of files.... just very slow compared to what i normally get ... but can test either way....
