I think hes been referring to that the new iphones have dual sim but one has to be an eSIM

That makes more sense

This is the exact reason I want esim - to have both my personal (2degrees) and work (Vodafone) numbers on my iPhone.

You could just buy a dual SIM Android with two physical SIMs

But NOPE no point buying an Andriod dual SIM when you are part of the iPhone Eco system... Some of us like the apple eco system... Dont want to go to andriod

Dial111: Neither my work or personal numbers are on VF, and tbh their the least likely to get my business anytime soon.

@Dial111 OK then let me reword this so it's more clear

GSM networks around the world have supported Line2 feature since the 1990's it is not a Vodafone feature it's part of the original GSM spec

2Degrees and Spark will support the Line2 feature as they are part of the GSM network spec

John

Don’t think you understood what I was saying not the other way round.... as it’s already been pointed out I won’t say it again.

So back to my point @Dial111 eSIM will not introduce any new network features in anyway

John

Not sure what that has to do with anything I said, but ok.

I knew somebody would post "move to Android" but this is personal preference. I've got an Android phone actually with dual sim capability but again, nope. Don't even mention this again as even though I have not fully invested into the Apple ecosystem I like iOS for its security, software updates and speed. It is simply the phone most suited for me (and believe me - I was Android since last year starting with the HTC Dream).

I've heard esim is coming but there is no timeframe to when. I'll be incredibly happy when it does happen however as even though I don't think it is a great solution, it is the solution that Apple has implemented and because of that, like it or not, other phone manufactures will follow suit.

esim i suspect will be a little way off still.

on the spark side, esim is used for the kids tracker.

the thing to remember is, supporting these things isn't just getting the network ready for it, but also there are tons of things such as processes etc that take alot of time to make sure they are right.

Personally even if i could switch to esim, i wouldn't.

I do alot of stuff with hotspots etc, carrying around spare sims with data on them is enough of a pain as it is... would be extra effort if i needed to switch an esim back to a normal sim just to use it in another device!

I read somewhere @jasonparis said VF was hoping to rollout support for eSim quarter 1 2019? Wonder if this is the case still, and hopefully the other ISP’s follow right after.

Once E-SIM is wide spread, what do you think Apple will do next? Drop the physical SIM, so there goes dual SIM and how flexible do you think E-SIM will be?

I feel like e-sim is going back in time to the CDMA days where it took half a day to change handsets. I'm sure times have changed and swapping SIM's is easier. But there is nothing easier than taking out your SIM, sticking it in a new phone and away you go (then log in to Google/iCloud and let the magic happen).

Ring apple and ask them to sell you one,  They provide them in China, HK and Macau...

The dual-SIM models don't support all the NZ LTE bands though.

Is anyone old enough to remember the AMPS days when people where altering the ESN's on phones to hijack other peoples accounts? Is this a return to the bad old days?

I still don't get why "saving space" is important to phones (I do get it with watches etc) when people want bigger phones, not smaller phones.

All dual SIM Android phones that I have seen use the 2nd SIM slot for the SD card expansion, so either it's 2 SIMs only or it's 1 SIM & 1 SD card only. yell
