How often do you need to go buy a new sim card? Personally I'm more keen to stay away from esim, for the ease of swapping handset.

Work and personal numbers on one handset. Easily the best advantage

@Dial111 You don't need eSIM for that feature the VodafoneNZ network has supported line2 since about 1997ish

The carriers just need to enable it and start letting customers use it

Neither my work or personal numbers are on VF, and tbh their the least likely to get my business anytime soon.

@Dial111 OK then let me reword this so it's more clear

GSM networks around the world have supported Line2 feature since the 1990's it is not a Vodafone feature it's part of the original GSM spec

2Degrees and Spark will support the Line2 feature as they are part of the GSM network spec

So back to my point @Dial111 eSIM will not introduce any new network features in anyway

Except using two different network providers? Not everyone wants two lines/numbers on one network...

I am sure only 1 eSIM can be active on a single carrier at a time

This is the exact reason I want esim - to have both my personal (2degrees) and work (Vodafone) numbers on my iPhone.

You could just buy a dual SIM Android with two physical SIMs
