@LukeFromVxt:

Hi guys! Luke from Vxt here. Happy to answer any questions about Visual Voicemail whether it be our service or otherwise.

Contrary to what you'd expect voicemail use in NZ at least hasn't been declining over the last decade (or increasing mind you). About 2 million voicemails are left every single day and approximately 1 million Kiwis check their messages at least once a week.

If anything, my guess would be that people are using voicemail less in their personal lives and more professionally.

Hi Luke

where are you getting your stats from?

im doubtful about the as they seem awfully high

Hi Jase.

The data was reported to us from one of the largest telecommunications companies in NZ. We extrapolated the data to the mobile device user population from an obviously enormous sample (>100K people) so the estimates are very accurate.

Linux: I would be surprised if any carrier in NZ released those stats! Sounds like figures pulled out of thin air

You're right, they're not publicly released.

@hio77 , Do you know if there is ever going to be visual voicemail at all ??.

Does anybody else have any experience with 3rd party visual voicemail providers. I see Vxt are they pretty good and what are their costs ??

Visual voicemail? Makes no sense. Videomail?

I actively avoid leaving voicemails. I have it back on my phone since I changed telcos and am yet to call them to get it removed. Changed the greeting to say to send me a text and sure enough, people still leaving messages. Usually old people from small businesses that clearly dont understand how annoying it is to have people ignore simple instructions.

If someone wants to do something useful, then visual IVR would be a good one where I just get a list of options and can mash the one I want rather than having to listen to slow talking lady read things out with needless padding words like "for" dept "please press" number. 3 words there are pointless and just make it more likly that you forget the first option and have to hope that it reads them again when you dont press anything rather than just hang up on you or put you thru to some no help department that will transfer you back to the same list of options.

I am certain 2degrees, VodafoneNZ and Spark would not release these figures outside of the business

I understand your skepticism, but nonetheless they did. If you have questions about anything else I'm more than happy to oblige. :)

Jesus... salty much?.. what's that new FUG update say again?

My personal view on this are that in the business world there is still plenty of voicemails being left. Being in the PBX business, we have been doing visual voicemail (along with speech to text) for quite a while now (our PBX product is 3CX who have an excellent mobile app that includes visual voicemail. Speech-to-text is via Google's API) - business customers love it. And we are often setting up their mobiles to forward calls in to the PBX so we can take the voicemail there rather than do it on the mobile carrier's system.

VXT have taken this requirement and simplified it so a user doesn't have to engage a professional company if all they want is visual voicemail. I really don't get why so many people here seem determined to bag on the idea.

Fellow mushroom hater reporting in.  😆

Just to keep this on topic...  Isn't best option with any carrier just to put a message on your voicemail saying "Hi I don't check my voicemail so if you want to leave me a message feel free to text or email me on xyz@example.com"?

Some businesses have a policy to always leave a message. They get all silly when you ask why they hire idiots who can't follow instructions.

Worse are ones that use a computer incapable of understanding greetings which leaves a message regardless and then claim that they tried to get hold of you when no emails or SMS was ever sent to you.
