The modem you have been sent will be one of their 2 wire modems, higher quality and more reliable on their ADSL & 2+ network.
If you keep it use it, it may perform better than the current unit!
dapples: From my experience they don't have 'authorised people' on business accounts.
I've been able to call up and have things changed without being an 'authorised person', and also on a business account I set up recently I asked to add an authorised person to the account and was told the above.
It is a grey area here. From a retail view, they should be checking the company’s office to see if you are a director, but that’s not the be all and end all. If you have a business card with photo ID then normally it will fly with the store manager. 126 are similar in the fact that once they confirm they are dealing with an employee of the company, who claims they are authorised (i.e. 126 asked if you are authorised to make the changes) then they will process the request.

raytaylor: If your receptionist is not an authorised contact on your telecom account, they cant hold you to a new contract. If your current contract is already up, then I would suggest sending it back and saying you dont want to be on contract, and just want to go month-by-month.
Telecom have renewed their plans so you may not want to leave but its still nice not to be tied to a contract.

jim.cox:
Our receptionist's side of the story is that she explicitly told them that she was NOT authorised to approve such a change, but that since I was on holiday it was ok to send "details" of their proposal
Turns out it was not actually Telecom per se, but one of their Wellington dealers
Who were suitably apologetic
But they can't put us a back on the old plan
And Telecom Business Services are wiping their hands of the whole sorry saga
At this stage I'm prepared to be charitable and put it down to a "miscommunication"
But it just makes me all the more convinced we need to move away from Telecom, and sooner rather than later

Does the new plan cost any extra? I am assuming its the same plan but the only change would be a higher data cap. You can still send it back and remove your contract, staying on the new plan untill you decide to leave. Your current modem will work with the new provider.
Thinking is dangerous. ALL Business Broadband plans from Telecom have a 24 month contract term and include a Wireless 2Wire Gateway, it is not optional. It is likely the OP has moved from the older Pro Ultra Plan to Business Broadband Advanced.
