Looks like we can move from Unplan 100/30 to the new Fibre Max 860/500 (both with NF) for virtually the same price. However it's unclear whether our existing Huawei 659b modem will work with Fibre Max. Spark's website says they longer sell that router but indicates that it's OK for all their fibre plans - it's a bit ambiguous.

Can anyone tell me whether the 659b would work? Thanks.

It will work, but they have newer router offerings available where the Wifi at least will be better

Thanks. What do you mean by better with a newer router? Certainly faster I guess but do you mean further reach within the house, or....

Anything that would make it worth spending $106 on their newer router?

Looking at the Spark site they are all open term plans too. Standard Netflix they mean Netflix HD. That's a sharp deal.

Why would you consider everyday wireless rather than everyday fibre if its the same price? Unless you didn't have access to fibre? Aren't they trying to push people towards wireless for better margins?

Also while this goes against the grain I'm not for price reductions. Telcos already have low margins and this will be just another loss in service quality.... Every day internet becomes a more vital utility and price reductions means there will need to be other cuts elswhere in the supply chain....

Looks like the "Essential Fibre" $85 plan has Netflix Standard instead of the Spotify Premium on my Unplan account, which would be far more use.
Unplan is also $85/month for 120+GB (i.e. effectively unlimited), but I only get up to that tier when there's three F1 Grand Prix in a calendar month, it's usually $75/month and sometimes - mostly in the summer when there's no F1 - only $65.

Hmmm, going to have to do some thinking

Open term is good, I think I might make the move (that was my next question, is there a contract).

I'm using the Spark smart modem too, so should be all good speed-wise.

Does anyone know if the Fritzbox 7390 can "handle" gigabit speed? Recall reading somewhere it can only do upto ~200Mbps. Might be time for me to upgrade my gear if this is the case as I've just pulled the trigger to go from Unplan 100 to this new gig plan (no extra cost so no brainer).

We're in - conversion to Fibre Max arranged with Spark via Messages app - just waiting for their confirmation that it's been set up. They confirmed advices received above that Huawei 659b is OK. TBH I'm not sure we necessarily need the extra speed - but Faster is Always Better, eh. Especially when it's much the same price.

Just changed my Unplan fibre to the Essentials. Hoping for the 300/100 boost later in the year, but 100/20 is fine for us anyway. I'll take the $14/month saving thanks!

I’m not even sure what difference IPv6 makes. As long as IP is public one is my main concern, only reason I have a static.
To my knowledge Spark has plenty IPv4 address’s to be able to keep them public.
