MaxineN:

Just flicked this off to the in laws.

That's an incredible deal.

Coming back to this.

If I was to switch and break my contract with SF (currently paying half price for gig down 500 up for 6 months then full price after that) this deal with Skinny ends up being more cost effective vs staying with SF.

Downside. I have to give up my ASUS router due to PPPOE performance...

I might be slightly attached to my AX3000 and I can already hear Michael saying get off the ASUS.

Think I'm going to make the jump. I'm currently with Slingshot paying $69.95 a month (100/20 plan). Even with the $250 termination fee, the $30 credit Slingshot gave me and the $10 Skinny modem postage fee, I'll still save $81.40 / $6.78 a month.  I'll go on the 900/500 plan then switch down to 100/20 once I reach month no.7.

Haha wish I'd waited to switch, I only got the 2 month free deal. Still a good deal though but man this is unreal.

I'm in two minds.

Offer is very tempting but I'm on an old $85 Gigabit plan that's no longer offered. Skinny's plan is $98 a month and other ISP's are around $95+.

By switching I get 6 months free ($510 value) but pay an extra $10-$13 a month from then on. It will take me 3-4 years for this to eat into the $510 I've made up front and there's also the chance I could take up other offers during this time.

We've put an order in for this, we are with stuff and our 12 months ran out earlier in the year. We were going to swap from my name to my partners when we move house soon and get a referral for another 6 months half price but this is too good to pass up. If it's rubbish but still works we'll make do until month 7 and pay to get out and still would have saved almost $500.

Seemingly the chaps over on cheapies have it confirmed you can change plans whenever you like so it makes sense to just go all in on gigabit and switch down to the lower plan in 6 months when you have to start paying if you don't really need it. By then the chorus upgrade might be in the table top only be downgrading to 300/100 instead of the current 100/20 offering. They also aren't offering the 200/100 plan enable upgraded to, opting to still go with 200/20 on Christchurch.

I'm Thinking of making the jump. I'm currently with Orcon VDSL with a VOIP landline.
I know Skinny do not do land lines or VOIP, but is there any reason why I cannot get a VOIP connection with someone like 2Talk and set it up myself?
Any inherent difficulties with Skinny broadband?

No. Fairly straightforward with no barriers.

If you do go down the 2Talk or Hero (I use both), just be aware that you’ll need to configure your ATA’s, if you are ok with that… life is good. Nothing on Skinny Will inherently stop you from using Voip.

Thanks for that. So likewise no "big" problem with me using an old HG659 with Phone ports once i've set it up?

If you are happy setting up the SIP settings, tones and dial plan…. Go nuts.

Dial plan is the big one & ring Candace however alot of ATAs have a “country” setting which do alot of this for you

Seem to be having problems with "Oops something went wrong, please try again later" then it goes to "our Credit Assessment is still in progress. Please wait about 15 seconds and then click NEXT again to see if your Credit Assessment has completed."

and that just loops.

Shouldn't be anything wrong with my credit assessment, I also went through the entire sign up form to make sure I typed in all the information but isn't letting me complete the sign up.

I wonder if something is broken on their side? Anyone else having this issue?

Maybe this is a sign to transfer to another provider, I was looking at moving to 2degrees but then this deal popped up.

Is there any major shaping happening on Skinny, like no point getting super fiber speeds if you get shaped?

I am having the same trouble too - been trying for last hour or so and ended up dropping a message through their contact us page

No shaping, only difference is at the layer 2 level Spark use Tagged VLAN 10 and Skinny to not, this allows you to use the 2.5mbps CIR on the fibre tail makes no difference if you are bot using a VOIP line

I think it might have been overloaded but then I started having problems saying that my data wasn't matching and I had to take the 0 off the start of numbers in the date entries and then it went through (even though it had a 2 digit input box)

so for example instead of 08/12/2021 I had to just do 5/12/2021

and then it let it go through.

Thanks for the hints, work like a charm, and save me hours from calling them. Skinny could have done better tho
