I am just not sure any of the WISPS can provide the speeds and uncapped data I need. Most at 10 upload, 30 download. 4g wireless was close to 100 down and 30 upload when I tried it on my phone.

Biased Starlink user here...

  • Power usage with the latest hardware is approx 40watts  eg $0.24 per day (0.25*.040*24) .  measurement  .The old hardware uses about twice the power
  • If you want to see actual speed test results then have a look at starlinkstatus.space and click on a few locations in NZ.

But I will concede that a WISP, if available, is generally better for most users.

My suggestion would be to ask around the various WISPs and see what they all say. As John says, you may have to compromise a little in your requirements.

Yeah, you guys are right!
It's just a can't compromise on data as I work from home, so it's sounding like Starlink and dealing with latency issues is my best option 😅. Some RBIs offer unlimited off peak, but the plans are up to almost 300 a month

Ironically the best thing the OP could probably do would be to sign up for a copper connection with landline through Spark.... Because they'll probably find in a couple of months Spark actively migrating them to unlimited FWA as they try and move more people off copper!

Geo-locking is likely, but I've certainly seen people who haven't had it enforced on them.

No WISPs in your area? https://www.wispa.nz/wispa-nz-members/ They might be able to swing something with the industrial park to get you online. Or if it's your property, you might be able to make a small (5 digit) investment and get fibre to your property.

Geo-locking yeah our service got blocked.
Because it was connecting to a further away cell phone tower in the opposite direction to the one that we should have been connecting to so had to ring up and argue that we hadn't taken the modem out of the house could they please put the service Back on. Turns out we were on the very cus of two different sectors in my eyes it's not worth the risk using someone else's address

Hey Peanut — I'm a bit late to the thread but there's another option if you're willing to go a little "grey zone". You said you'll be "across the road from an industrial park that has fibre". If it were me, and assuming you have line-of-sight, I'd be making friends with some kind business owner over there, then pay $85/m for a 300/100 fibre connection to their premises (give them free access?) and stick one of these on their roof and yours. I did something very similar 8 years or so ago and it's been flawless ever since.
