They don't have any fixed term plans advertised. Only open term and I can imagine that you'd get shot down like quickymart did if you asked for something.

Ramblings from a mysterious lady who's into tech. Warning I may often create zingers.

they seem to indicate here that you can sign up for a term and get it for free . . .

Might be the case if you're a new customer, but I was trying to upgrade mine (as an existing customer) to the version 2 one and had no luck.

Spark will give you one of their very good modem/routers for free if you sign up for a term.

Not anymore, I asked them about this recently (happy to sign up for 12 months, etc) and they said no, they don't do free routers anymore.

Yeah they do if you sign up for fixed term contract VDSL/ Rural FWB plans . The CSR gave you incorrect info....

Not for fibre though, which is what they were asking about. Seems odd they don't do it for all connection types.

at any rate - if you can't get one for free they can be picked up pretty cheap

Load openwrt onto the tplink router, then you'll be able to tag vlan 10 on the wan port

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Thought about it. But OpenWrt site no longer supports (since 2019) 4MB FLASH / 32MB RAM devices - and that WR841N router has exactly that.

I like a challenge, but given I had no Internet it was time to just spend some money. I have upgraded to another cheap tp-link router (AX10). All good with Spark - and I now have dual band wifi, wifi-6 support, and gigabit ports.
