Woo Hoo

Cabinet has been upgraded exactly as per the schedule.

My current downstream stats

SNR = 9
Attenuation = 6 (previously 54)
Downstream 21268 kbs (previously 4500 on average)

upstream
SNR = 28 (same as before i think)
Attenuation = 2 (cant remember previous)
Upstream = 164

Think ill change to an FS/FS plan to make full use of the speed.

Nice connect rates! I'm jealous Yell

Now you just need to jump on FS/FS and see what it can do!

Damager: Hi,

I apologize for being slightly OT.

I checked for one of the local cabinets upgraded to ADSL2+. Yesterday it was at NO for migrated to ADSL2+. Today it is now YES :-)

That cabinet is TRV/F . I'm connected to TRV/K which is scheduled for this coming monday so i'm pretty excited to see what my synch speed will get to. I'm around 50 metres from it.
My friend gave me a Dynalink RTA1320. I tried it for a while and it synchs higher than the D-Link 502T. Put the D-Link back on because it didnt immediately co-exist with my wireless router but help from cyril on GZ sussed that.

Should i go to the Dynalink once the cabinet is upgraded or is the 502T enough?

I suggest using the Chorus spreadsheet to see what date your cabinet will be migrated because Telecom says April 2009 for most of my area!

Exchange Cabinet Suburb affected Planned Migration Date Cabinet Migrated? Copper Feeder?

Hi Damager,
Thanks for this post...very interesting. I'm currently with Orcon and have had enough of the bad latency/packet loss while gaming and more than likely will switch to Telecom very soon. Now my closest cabinet is TRV/N Pukete which according to the Chorus web-site went into binding state on January 1st 2009. Telecom states it won't be online until April 2009 at there web-site and when I phoned the help desk. What does it mean when the cabinet is migrated? Out of interest what ISP are you with Damager?

Regards
BazNZ

Hey BazNZ,

As youre an Orcon customer, this thread will be useful reading as well.

http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=49&TopicId=29469

Anarkist in that thread describes the effect of cabinetisation. It essentially decreases the distance between yourself and the ADSL equipment.

For example, my attenuation was previously 54db ( 4km from the exchange ). My attenuation is now 6db.

Cheers!

Edit: I'm with Snap on their Night Owl plan ( was offered as a promotional plan for a limited time 7am to 7pm 164/164, 7pm to 7am FS/164. Unlimited data.. yes thats absolutely unlimited data :) )

Thanks Damager,
As the newly installed cabinet TRV/N is less than 300m from my house...I'm guessing come February 9th when it is migrated... I will get much better sync rates and speeds?.... regardless that my ISP is Orcon?  My plan currently is MAX/MAX ADSL1.  Or do I have to switch to Telecom to get the best speeds possible i.e ADSL2+ or is this a diffrent kettle of fish?

Technically it depends on whether or not Orcon have installed their own equipment in the cabinet at that stage. They definitely have their equipment in all the exchanges that allow you to have Orcon+ services.

You could possibly be migrated the same time as all Telecom customers should Orcon be on the ball and have their own gear up and running, or not should they wait to install or be delayed for any reason.

I'd give em a call and check what they say, as only they know what they're doing for sure.
