I think Skinny insist on providing you with their router, which is free on contract (maybe just a post and handling fee), but you don't have to use it

This. Unless if you’ve got a very good reason not to, you should always use the router provided. In your case you should use it…

I've recently switched to Skinny. The Smart router they provide seems really good, I'm getting great speeds on wifi and wired connections and the UI is easy to use. I was previously using a Deco system connected straight to the ONT but just had a few niggling faults with that so am now using it as mesh APs connected to the Skinny router

harrylin: My dad is with Spark and has a Spark modem. Can he switch to Skinny and still use the same Spark modem ? Coz he is scared of switching provider and have the internet cut off

Spark use VLAN10 Tagging Skinny do not, so you need to turn that off

Skinny provide (I think) the same smart modem with VLAN tagging off - I can't believe the amount of e-waste going on with new routers every time someone changes providers

I do admire RSPs taking some steps to stop this

Examples of this are Spark charge one-off $106 for a new modem, Slingshot charge $5 p/m rental, Vodafone charge $4 p/m rental & require a 12 month term.

However it does create support issues when people use their own.
