I asked Skinny if they would swap my B315s for their Fleximodem... but they pointed out I could simply start a new account on a 12 month contract and the modem comes free ($10 courier charge).

Edit: also get 2 month's free on signing up to 12 month contract, including the free modem.

This is wonderful - but invites rorting by signing up every 12 months, and selling the old modem on TM!

Does the ping of 40-50ms vs 10ms impact the quality of gaming?

not really, but with 4G its possible you get random spikes, which would.

Ok got the new Fleximodem from Skinny down to Whangamatā and plugged in. Wow. 80Mbps where the old B315s barely delivered 20 at best. Also much stronger wifi. The signal is ok all around the house but the B315s wifi fell away outside the room.

Merry Christmas everybody.
