Not sure about 1Km of cable, but the box itself is 1Km away (give or take 100m) as far as walking distance.  I'll try a broadcom unit at any rate and report back with results. I can probably give the old one to a good home either way.


Edit: Found a US Robotics 9108 on the shelf at work that uses a Broadcom 9108 chipset, so will give that a go later on. Fingers crossed.

The USR unit was a bit quicker, getting around 10600Kbps, not enough of an improvement for me to justify buying a different modem for. Must be something else causing the less than optimal speed. I can live with 10Mbit considering it's the same as we had previously, but significantly cheaper.

Consider yourself lucky!

Im on Xtra Pro plan and get a 1000kbps router sync on a good day.
That is also adsl2+

Bit of a joke really...

The ADSL2+ cabinet across the road was livened the other day. Plugged in a Thomsen router, now getting 15 mbit (was 3.5 with an alcatel speedtouch). (Xtra Pro plan)
all for the same price - nice!
