I can confirm that transferring your contacts is easy and there are many options for this.

You can transfer your contacts SIM to SIM. e.g. Vodafone SIM to XT SIM
You can tranfer from Device to SIM. e.g. CDMA device to XT SIM.
You can tranfser from CDMA device to XT Network device. e.g. CDMA device to XT Device

To do this visit your local Telecom Retail/Dealer store.

Other options include:
- Activesync for Windows Mobile devices/Windows XP.
- Windows Mobile Device Centre for Windows Mobile devices/Windows Vista.
- BlackBerry Desktop Software for your BlackBerry devices.
- Dashwire for OTA sync of contacts (plus more) - this is a range of Symbian OS and Windows Mobile devices.

I can confirm that transferring your contacts is easy and there are many options for this.

For that you'll just have to hold fire until launch, Telecom are letting nothing out of the bag until then. But I have a feeling prepaid users will get mobile broadband and I can only imagine that if they didn't at lest rival the Vodafone plans it will flop, so fingers crossed we get some good prepaid plans on the XT network.

There will be very competitive prepaid dataplans and full details will be publically available from 13th May, however these new dataplans will apply to XT - WCDMA850 only and will not cover existing devices ( current 1x, cdma, EVdo ) keep in mind that being the the speeds are going to be quite fast it would not take long to chew through a gig

This is sounding more and more interesting...

Given that my contract has just expired on the Sierra 595 Data Card I have been using for the past couple of years, what do you recommend as a replacement for use with the XT Network and connected via a USB interface rather than a card slot?

If I want to recieve my email, view ten items on Trademe, and use MSN to chat with a friend, then faster data speeds will just make the whole experience better/faster - it won't increase my data use vs. a slower connection :-P

As, I'm a Go One bill user, which is effectively prepaid on acct, I would like to know if this service is available to me if I upgrade to a mobile on the new XT network?

Can anyone out there answer that question for me or is it to early .....

Hi Grant

Completely up to you, but I would wait and see whets coming out. Also perhaps until there is the 21 card out that Telstra are now selling in Australia. Advantage of a card is from experience I find them to be more robust as they are mostly inside the machine. A USB modems weak point comes from the USB connection itself if it get's bumped which is highly likely to occur unless you're extremely careful.

Obviously with a USB modem it's easier to use if you are using multiple machines.

Also if you are thinking of upgrading you’re laptop then that will also require consideration. I don’t think we will see any PCMICA cards (only express if even that), but I could be wrong.

I know that Sierra has an HSDPA ExpressCard but I don't know whether it runs at 850.

@oggie Unfortunately I cannot tell you which plans will be available at launch on XT Nework as this is up to the marketing teams to decide.

At this stage you will not be able to buy a XT prepaid datacard however it you had one of the new WCDMA t-sticks you can put a XT prepaid sim card in it and have prepaid mobile, my understanding is that you can buy a datacard outright no plan (device only) and then use your simcard out of your prepaid phone.

Go onebill in the past has had its market niche, and if i was reading between the lines I would say that it is here to stay. Look at it from Telecoms view, prepaid cards sellers take a cut, go onebill no third party. also the go onebill is linked to your landline and effectively gets Telecom those customers who have landline services with another provider. Essential go onebill has been and continues to be very popular, it doesnt cost them anything (Telecom) so why would you change it unless you are making it better.
