freitasm:
littleangelboy: the ipod thing was a misprint also

i read in a another forum that apple are telecom are in talks or something. for the iphone to come on telecom

as it will run faster then on the vodafone network.

I was at the Telecom event last week when Alan Gourdie said that Telecom is in conversations with Apple. That's all he said, and that's all he was going to say.

Anything else is just rumours.

Alan Gourdie tweeted "We are in negotiations with Apple... we are very focused on the 3rd gen iPhone.. we will keep u updated" on 19/05. Just a little more meat on the bones in that quote -- and confirms the existence of a 3rd gen iPhone. Wonder what Cupertino think of this, doubt they would be too over the moon about it!

Did he specifically say 3rd gen iPhone or did he say 3g iphone and someone jumped to conclusions. Letting something like this slip would seriously breach apples NDA's and set back telecoms discussions significantly.

As if Apple would really care. It's hardly the best kept secret in the world that a 3rd Gen iPhone will appear, with an announcement pretty well expected at WWDC.

He specifically said 3rd gen. Direct quote:

Apple does really care and besides which when I last spoke to someone from Apple USA about 6 months ago I was told the company was going to concentrate on their software market over the next 12 months and ease back on significant hardware development.  Besides this, what is really left to add to the iPhone hardware wise, a performance upgrade and maybe a new camera but it already has a full web browser, email, apps, 3g, GPS etc.  Even if they upgrade it which I doubt (and I'm willing to eat those words) I don't think it will be significant feature wise.

You never know with Apple they may have found a way to have it make me a coffee.  Time will tell.

You can expect a compass, that's a definite, and there are rumours of other things like FM receiver / transmitter

Well apps using the GPS can give you a compass and if the NZ telcos got their act together as far as data usage goes you could use online radio instead of FM

Those are software capabilities, you wanted to know what was coming hardware-wise. Hardware compass can actually be pretty cool - the Android G1 has one and its used by other apps like Streetview in Google Maps where the view of the street will turn with you as you turn around on the spot. There is also talk of video recording and full turn-by-turn navigation has been confirmed by apple. This means your iPhone will now act just like your in-car Navman / Tomtom with audio directions. Don't underestimate whats coming in the 3rd gen iPhone and the iPhone 3.0 OS, it's going to be pretty awesome.

Don't get me wrong I'm a die hard apple fan and I have seen the OS 3.0 release.

I definitely don't doubt their ability to create amazing features out of thin air but I can just can't picture anything overly significant coming that would make me want to sell my 3g iPhone for an upgrade.
