Hmm, so what was the solution?

I have my contacts saved as the +27xxx format - when texts come through, their name shows, but when i get a call, it just shows 027xxx

so, yeah, do i just have to save the numbers twice?
(I have updated the carrier settings - and i'm not really wanting to jailbreak it)

The problem is Apple.

(maybe not so much on Telecom since they don't offically support it)

but its the way the iphone reads the caller ID.

Same problem with Vodafone.

Unless someone is able to fix this themselves (jailbreaking etc)

You're going to have to wait for APple to release an update (for Vodafone at least) and go from there.

Im am pretty sure that the problem you guys are having are very much related to the one on the Vodafone network.

the iphone recognises a certain length of numbers, after that length is exceeded, the caller ID fails.

Best thing everybody in this thread can do is submit feedback to Apple about it here: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

If everybody complains then Apple are more likely to take note. I can confirm that as of iPhone 3.1 beta 2 this is still not fixed, not tested beta 3 yet but doubt this has changed.

bender: It seems to be a Telecom issue not an iPhone issue - the iPhone caller ID works perfectly on Vodafone, all my numbers are in +64 xxxx format and all calls I receive match up to numbers in my address book correctly (e.g. 021 123 456 matches when I have +64 21 123 456 in my address book).

Nope, happens on Vodafone too:
