Is it? It's better than being charged $12 up front and then 120MB are free.

Mmmm yeah you both make good points but I still think its a bit cheeky, 50c per MB is pretty steep.

I do think $12 for 120mb is pretty good value.

However how would you feel if you used just over 24mb over the month and then move over to your next months cycle? I'd be pretty miffed at paying around 50c per meg.

Dont want to start a war of words but I do prefer vodafones $1 a day for 10mb.

i had the $1 a day then realised how much my phone went onto the internet, now I have the $10 for 100mb from Vodafone.

BTW thanks to Mauricio for putting me onto the $10 a month plan, I would have spent $31 a month otherwise.

Hello,

Do you know if the same rule applies for TXT150 ? 20c/text until you reach 6$ and then the rest until 150 are free?

I assume though that the "My favorites" gets charged for the full 6$ once a month every month even if you don't call the favorite number?

For prepaid the XT TXT plans are as you describe wher ethe customer is charged 20c until the plan value is reached, each subsequent text is "free" until the text limit is reached and then 20c charging resumes.

Postpiand is slightly different where te plan value is charged and all texts up to the plan limit are "free" before 20c charging kicks in.

Yes. My Favourites is charged each month even if you don't call.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't activate the TXT150 option? If I don't use it I don't pay anything, If I send just a couple of text messages I will be charged at the standard rate and if I send 150 I get 100 (or whatever the number is) for free.

This is too good to be true.

the only reason to not activate it on prepaid is if you beleived you wanted to use a lot mroe texts and so would benefit more from a higher plan (like the 600 text one)

tcpdump: Solved it. I'm running WM6.5 and the default behavior for Internet Explorer was to authenticate as Desktop Computer instead of Mobile browser.

Now everything works and I was amazed to see that there is history available for calls/txt/mobile data!

That's impressive for prepay. Well done Telecom!

Can anyone confirm that this would work also with iphone 3G on XT prepaid?

Http://pdaportal.telecom.co.nz is available for both prepaid and post paid from an iPhone connected to the XTNetwork.

Do you know if My Telecom is available only on postpaid? If yes, is there a web-management console for my XT prepaid card?

Second question, is VoIP forbidden on prepaid data plans? I know that Vodafone allows it but of course does not guarantee any quality which is fine by me.

Thanks NealR - I tried this today on friends iphone and it came up with a login screen of sorts which looked different to my "your telecom" on my Samsung c5520 so I bailed out of there. I guess we just need to create a login and we will have access.

On another note NealR if you are able to put a suggestion in somewhere, my friend is Deaf and uses the iphone which she absolutely loves but is frustrated with telecom as she is reliant on others to top up her phone. She would be rapt if she was able to text her voucher top up to 333 rather than having to give it to the store staff to do when she buys the voucher.

"4.6 You agree to:... (l) do not use your Mobile Phone or the Services for voice over internet protocol or messaging over internet protocol;..."

Here's the official word from Telecom New Zealand:

"We are not actively enforcing this clause at the moment, we’re reserving the right to make changes or take action in the future if we see a considerable shift in behaviour. "

I'd say that, like everthing else, if there's a sharp increase in this kind of usage they will see what's the impact in their business model (i.e. selling mobile voice calls) and act accordingly.

Seeing that I don't think VoIP over mobile networks is going to be something the mainstream consumer uses, this shouldn't be a problem for some time.
