You should have then asked for a $10 topup card for you girlfriends CDMA phone, and then top up the wrong phone :)

It was just weird, because I had purchased $10 vouchers there several times.

I still don't get why it matters, as the $10 cards are cross compatible...

Why would they prevent the sale at the flagship store, but EVERY place capable of epay happily sells them to anyone.

I guess when you're talking about 'upgrading to large' you mean a starbucks coffee or fastfood combo. The difference is the item you are buying in those cases is typically consumed in one sitting, you don't make it last until the next meal.

Now lets say you buy a coffee every day - and they usually cost $3. If the cafe said "look, give me $20 and you can have 10 coffees - anytime you like, over the next year" why wouldn't you do that?

I think the point here was that he was denied a sale... It doesn't matter how much he was or wasn't willing to spend

Denied a sale, but it does state that XT top ups start at $20. I don't see what the issue is. You can't buy $10 for XT in Telecom-branded Stores but, as you stated, you went to a dairy to buy a top up. You have options. If you don't want to go with the $20, you can choose to top up from somewhere else.

As for the availability in store, this is business decision, made by Telecom. I think it's a bit harsh, as an above poster has done, calling the lady in store stupid for following the process that is clearly outlined to them.

While I'm pretty surprised you didn't get the $20 card for the bonus $$$ I can see where you're coming from.

What business is it of theirs really? You could have been picking up a top up for your CDMA phone, or your girlfiends. It shouldn't matter.

If they don't want $10 to work on XT then why is the top up code compatible?

I think it's harsh to hassle the guy for being denied the opportunity to hand over his cash to his mobile phone company. So what if he doesn't have enough money to go for the more beneficial $20, what business is it of Telecoms or yours?

Where is the logic behind Telecom not selling $10 and allowing everyone else to?

I heard before XT launched that Telecom was putting pressure on e-pay or whatever that gateway is, to remove $10 topups. Rumour but based on some written correspondence.

There's no logic, simply put, $10 top ups are still available for CDMA, try as they might, Telecom can tell all the other mass market retailers that they can't sell $10 top-ups for XT phones but god knows they can't stop them because they still physically work so why wouldn't they. Telecom need to find a way to stop them altogether or let it slide paerhaps, if someone chooses to miss out on the bonus credit then that's there problem. Maybe not worthy of such an angry post though. My 2c...

Haha all they have to do is impose a $2 "surcharge" for $10 topups if they wish to, and this might stop pretty quickly :p

Like the surcharge imposed by Trademe on payments under their minimum $10.

If XT wishes to impose a $20 minimum topup then that is up to them (I neither agree nor disagree).
