The Telstra TP2 is going for some damn good prices on eBay! As you said filup, around $770.00 on some listings and all authentic Telstra 850/2100 versions.

It would be well worth buying one of those to use on XT. I've been following an excellent thread on the Whirlpool forums re the Touch Pro 2 in Australia re user feedback, pricing etc. One of the users on there has figured out where in the registry, changes can be made to remove Telstra's customizations, without the need to flash a custom rom. I believe the stock rom has also been dumped from the Telstra version, so if warranty work is required, then you can reload the stock rom, if you have flashed to a custom rom. Read from here:

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1286616

makes for excellent reading!

As for the guy at Parallel Importers, hmmm not sure what he's on about there

Hopefully, Telecom comes to the party with reasonable pricing! There are many complaints in the Whirlpool forums re Telstra's ridiculous pricing of $1495.00 for an outright purchase. Even though the ones on ebay have great pricing, us users in New Zealand, may strike warranty issues.

I'd feel better off getting a Telecom TP2 and the peace of mind of their warranty. I just hope that the peace of mind is not ridiculously hundreds of dollars more.

Anyone know if the NZ version will have the 3.5mm audio jack?

The standard HTC touch pro 2 doesn't have this, but the recent north american versions (e.g. sprint, telus...) have this 3.5mm jack, as well as the usb.

The Titan was $1400 and if Telstra have TP2 at the same price then I am (unfortunately) picking if it does come here the price will be about the same.

From what i can gather, the only versions of the TP2 with a 3.5mm headphone jack are the CDMA variants. Nothing else to suggest that other carriers will sport this jack. It's not a dealbreaker for me as i use a bluetooth headset most of the time.

As for the pricing, I'm hoping its not too expensive. Telstra are sporting their TP2 with an outright price of around $1400. Yet you can now get the TP2 for amazing prices of $769.00 and similar!! Telstra had worldwide exclusivity on the 850/2100 TP2 until 31 August 2009, when it was able to be sold by other non Telstra retailers. After the exclusivity ended, you started to see online retailers offering the TP2 for much more realistic outright pricing. Many in Australia are getting their TP2s from ebay etc.

We'll see what Telecom offers :D

So the prices of $769 are avail from Aus now, unlocked and no contract? If so link me please. My friend is over there and I would buy one straight away. Of course unless someone else tells me it wont be fully functional here on XT.

The links earlier in this thread, search Ebay aus for T7381.

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180411945136&_trkparms=tab%3DWatching#ht_1822wt_1165 etc.

I've asked this seller to run one of them at the XT IMEI check and reports all good :)

PPCgeeks say there's a little hassle removing the Telstra stuff, if you want to, but that's only a matter of time. Once 6.5 is officially on it it should be easy.

billgates: They cannot sell the device before 6th of October if it indeed is going to be released with 6.5

Global launch for 6.5 is 6th October. Telecom is not special to release it a day early.

6.5 gives you some UI smarts, but that's about it.

6.5 on my Touch makes the whole experience much nicer. It feels much more responsive, and i can access pretty much everything i need directly from the new Today screen. Wish i'd upgraded earlier!

Admittedly the Touchflo 3D interace will mask most of these changes anyhow.

I didn't want to state the obvious, but clearly my IT guys' info on the 5th was a crock and there's only 5+ hours left in the working day for the 6th, so all I'm doing is keeping my fingers crossed for an early, positive announcement - whenever it is!!

The launch of WM 6.5 is the 6th in the US (i.e. tomorrow) - see http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2009/sep09/09-01WindowsPhoneAvailablePR.mspx but AT&T has jumped the gun with some HTC handsets http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9138831/AT_T_announces_first_Windows_Mobile_6.5_smartphones. Note that Telstra is mentioned in the MS PR but not Telecom.

http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2009/oct09/10-06WindowsPhoneLaunch09PR.mspx has the launch. I see a related post (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=39&topicid=42563) points out the HTC Touch Pro2 is now available from Telecom (http://store.telecom.co.nz/mobile/prepaid/htc-touch-pro2), although unlike the HTC Australian website which announces the new Australian phones the NZ HTC site makes no mention of them, and the Telecom site shows this as WM 6.1.
