Another tip if you're using a 3G modem rather than your phone, is to get another sim card if you think you're going to blow your selected plan's limit one month. For example I'm a fairly light user, so I'm on the 240mb plan. But this year at Tech Ed I got to the end of that limit, so I purchased another sim card and put a 500mb plan on it.

Sure the sim card cost me $30, but I'm planning that I'll likely blow that limit again next time I'm away, say around Christmas. So in total I'll have 740mb or so. Just got to keep an eye on that bandwidth meter to know when to switch cards...

The fact that I don't get charged if I don't use it is why this is possible :)

Could you not just change your plan for the month and back again? *333 is your friend :-)

If I've already used data on my plan (ie, used $18 worth of data already)? I didn't think they let you do that... Embarassed

The only rule is you can change plans at intervals :)

Wow, in that case I'm gonna drop my plan down to the 120mb one, because some months are really light. Then just increase it as I need it...

Guess I'll be putting that second sim on trademe sometime in the future... :P
