I just picked up one of those "Discover" mags for Prepaid at Dick Smith, noticed on the back it talks about Mobile Data Pricing for Prepaid and includes the option of 1 gig for $54.95.
I can't find this detail on the Telecom website (it only goes upto $18 for 240 meg) for the 500mb or 1gig data option. Is this legit or a printing error?

thanks.

You might want to look here: http://www.telecom.co.nz/mobile/mobilebroadband/plansandpricing. It goes up to 3GB. You would have been looking at the add-ons at: http://store.telecom.co.nz/mobile/prepaid/plans

Prepaid and Postpaid plans are the same, anything you get on postpaid you can get on prepaid except blackberry plans.

don;t forget you also get bonus credit. If you top up $60 you get $80 of credit. so $120 of top ups will get you enough almost enough credit for 3 months of 1Gb plan.

I went into the Telecom Store today, they explained that if you are on pre-pay plan and you don't use the data, you won't be charged, whereas if you are on the post-paid plan you will be charged the monthly fee irrespective of use.

Therefore, my understanding is: if you topped up $60 on day 1 and over the next 6 mths prior to the credit expiring you only used the 1GB, you would NOT be paying the $54 pm but $54 in total over 6 mths?

Seems a very good deal if you only pay for what you use.

So, that means the XT offering is better than Vodafone's, as their website says it rolled every month!

So your data rolls over month after month, so if I use 1gb over 6 months then I only pay $54??

No, you are charged at $1 per MB (it could be $0.50) untill you reach the monthly value i.e. $54.95 then you are not charged untill you go over 1GB. Everything starts again next month on the 1st.

hmm the impression I got from the XT website was that all addons reset at the start of each month

e.g if I purchase a 1 gig addon and only use say 800mb then come 1 november I'd loose the last 200mb but have a fresh 1 gig allocation and a $54.95 charge taken from my credit

so just wanting to confirm here, if I buy a 1 gig addon but don't use any of it, I won't be charged?

So come 1st of November and I want the 1 gig addon,
$54.95 is not automatically deducted, just charged $1 per meg till I hit $54.95 of credit used then data is technically free until 1 gig of use is reached?

I've just been hunting around the Telecom website for this information and here is the link (under all the fine print)

So in a nutshell:
November 1, sign up to the 1 gig addon
Pay for traffic @ the rate of $1 per meg until $54.95 of data is reached, then traffic is technically free until 1 gig is reached.
Then as per the flyer I picked up at dick smith, data over the 1 gig is charged at 50c per meg until you've spent $15 on excess data then data after that is free until you hit 1 gig again ($69.95 total for 2 gig)

If I've got that wrong please correct me.
