Even now, I'd argue against that because of the barriers to entry and the fact that neither party has perfect information.

Yes, Telecom (via Chorus) owns the POTS, but other companies are free to place their own equipment should they wish to - but that comes back to the barriers of entry...Not a monopolistically competitive market

Haha, mate I have just finished studying this all semester at uni, The market structure is somewhere in-between a monopoly and monopolistic competition (with a fringe of oligopolies acting with collusive tacit through price leadership).

Anyway back to my original point
Telecom do what they want when they want and don't give a damn about customers (Who incidentally happen in this case to be share holders), because there is no real competition.

Good for you. Perhaps this is where I say I have nearly 4 years of uni economics under my belt..? We could argue this all day, but I do know more about what you're talking about than you do - from several angles, not just the economics one.

There's also no collusion in the market place (implied or otherwise), the ComCom would be the first to drag all involved through court if there was.

There are competitors out there, some are doing a great job, others aren't. Lets leave it at that.

Who told you that only P2P traffic was managed? This certainly isn't the message Telecom's advertising or website says. In both it makes it clear that ALL traffic is managed.

When I considered switching from Telstraclear to Telecmo Big Time I specifically asked what traffic would be managed and was told it was just P2P because that what was the majority of traffic was. I was happy with this and happy with Big Time until about two weeks ago when they decided to manage online gaming traffic.

Further to this, should it be considered "managed" if the managing causes the service to fail completely? I can't play online at all from 8am to 2am so my service isn't managed it's disabled.

I wish people would get their facts straight here rather than blindly complaining.

Big Time is a plan which is managed (because it would not be possible if it wasn't). It is clearly stated that they will shape all traffic they deem fit. Also realize since it is a new plan involving new equipment it is going to have problems, problems that will only happen under load.

I read a post above basically saying telecom don't care about there customers. Well i ask you this, why on earth are they the only ISP to offer a unlimited plan?

At the end of the day, you can move ISP. In the real world unlimited comes at a cost. You cant have the best of both worlds.

Edit: For all this Go Large -> Big Time complaning, realise that Go-Large was being phased out. You got warning about this, it was not a monoplistic descision because your were not stuck on that plan nor are you stuck on that ISP.

Telecome made it very clear from the start that it is everything. Whoever gave you the information was wrong. Don't blame Telecom on this...
