Regs:slowblink: If I had to guess, this is all about promoting local seeds. It is a theory that has done the rounds for ages.
Unmetered uploads promotes behaviour that has individuals offering P2P content for others to grab.
This is probably the big T dipping their toe in the water to see if this market strategy causes people to share locally between themselves rather that 1000 people all grabbing copy each of house from california rather than karori.
If the theory holds, this will be the future.
while i agree with your theory and reasoning, and have suggested this may be a welcome side-effect myself, i doubt that this would be the reason for telecom offering the free upload. They are probably expecting most of their torrent clients to be on the new plans which dont charge for upload anyway. Its more likely driven by marketing as a way to try and show the public that they get a flickr.com pro account and give them a couple of months to get hooked by uploading all their photos to the service..

+1. The people that are doing the real damage will all be on Bigtime. (I reckon if you leave it seeding 24/7 you could do 222GB/month). However, for those people who want to upload video to Youtube and are on a capped plan this will be great.
