munchkin: A software update usually does fix the problem, Loismustdye.

It's also not an OBF - these have to occur within a certain timeframe after purchase - which is definitely not two months.

As for being common, it happens, but it does not mean it is common. The percentage rate of handsets with this issue would only be around the 2-3% mark.

In my case and the 3 other cases of friends/associates that I know of, a software update would not fix the problem. In fact in two of those 4 phones the phone would not even accept an update for whatever reason, all the while displaying "no network coverage" and the "insert SE battery" message.
Removal of the sim and battery, waiting a few minutes and reinserting would not fix those 4 mentioned phones either.

All faults occurred within 1-2 months of having the phone (mine occurred with 2 days) and all 4 phones were eventually replaced by telecom. And of those new phones, 1 has also had intermittant issues since being replaced

Kind of good to hear other people have had the issue, I will take it into telecom today. If they request the $55 upfront for repair should I deny to pay this.

A Telecom owned store will not request the $55 bond. Third party dealers and mass-market retailers will charge this, though.

@Loismustdye - which is why it needs to be sent away. Please stop spreading FUD, it does not help.

FUD?

I was merely giving my experience (along with 3 others) with the same fault, which was resolved with the replacement of the phone as the fault was diagnosed as irrepairable (so I was told by telecom at the time of replacement).

I had the same problem last year and was not charged a bond (this was at Leading Edge). Telegistics reinstalled the software, which fixed the issue. Had I known that it was just a software issue then I would've tried that myself!
