APT were unable to supply enough, i think it was car kits which were to be shipped with the Treo, so it will not be on shelves till problem solved

It could be that voda have the 700 in store by the time the telecom 650 gets sorted again.

I think you might have meant Renaissance. APT doesn't handle the Treo's.

I think you might have meant Renaissance. APT doesn't handle the Treo's.

Ah sorry, easy mistake to make given APT seems to handle most of the accessories for Telecom.

LOL, fair enough reply. It would be nice if we were the primary supplier for the accessories, but it's a bit of an unusual market, in that our primary difference to other suppliers is the level of support. If there's a problem with one of our products, we've got the support to fix it, or at least tell you why it's not working.

Although I must say I'm pleasantly surprised with how reliable the data cables have been. For the number of cables we've sold over the years, the failure rates, and actual support calls from people wanting help with installation has been significantly less than expected.
ie: I think we've had maybe a maximum of half a dozen faulty cables in the last year or so, if that.

Of course, we still get a few people who don't read the instructions and either install the wrong driver, or don't install the driver at all. But that's par for the course.

So why has Telecom removed the Treo 650 from its website?

It makes no sense to keep a product advertised on the site if they are unable to supply it, im sure they would get an endless stream of complaints from people.

You can be assured this is quite some time away

You mentioned car kits, this is either a piece of software or hardware. The software works with the Bluetooth connection and can be downloaded from Palm One from

Other than it is US connected then there shouldn't be an issue here...

Or it is hardware based in which case the hardware value of A$399 for the Carcomm Treo 650 Handsfree DSP Car Kit included in the kit (very unlikely) means really ... what the hell is going on?

Got my Telecom Treo650 on Friday (16/12/05). They should be widely available now.. Finally!
Quite impressed..

Stuff that's cool... (& I've managed to get working...)
1. DUN over Bluetooth. Laptop connected to wireless jetstream via Bluetooth. Easy!
2. Bluetooth control of Bluetooth serial applications. I write Palm Bluetooth apps, so it was good to get this working!
3. Bluetooth Hotsync (sync'ing the Palm with PC). A bit slow though.
4. Read and send mail using Versmail. This works with any POP or IMAP server, but make sure for sending that you have the smtp setting "smtp.xtra.co.nz"
5. Browse the web with in-bulit Blazer app. This is OK, but I doubt I'll use it much.
6. Movies play well using Kinoma player. Can use higher fps settings than my old Palm E2.
7. Made a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter so I can use ordinary stereo headphones for listening to music & movies. MP3 quality from in-built real player is very good. Use Kinoma player to play m4a files (itures aac). Quality also very good, but iPod is still better.
8. Keyboard is great, and the intuitive 5-way navigation is also great. Can do virtually everything without using the stylus.\

Stuff that's not so cool... (problems I've had)
1. Random resets!.. Arrgghh... This is the biggest bugbear so far. The unit will soft reset (fatal exception) on occassions. normally associated with me doing something silly, but once it did it without me doing anything!
From reading some Treo forums this seems to be a issues that most people experience and just put up with. And to be honest it's more annoying than anything else.
2. The 1GB miniSD card that comes with the Tre650 would not read in my USB card reader. After reading the manual for the card reader I note that miniSD max is 256MB.. Doh! So I'm limited to hotsync'ing to get data on or off the miniSD card. It's actually not as slow as I thought it would be.
3. Keyboard backlight stays lit while the screen is on. Pain when watching movies at night! Firtunately there are 3rd party apps out there that can turn it off (I used KBLights & it works ok).

Ok, so I'm still getting the hang of this beast, but it's quite nice! The Bluetooth side of it was the main reason I got it and so far this is working very well. Only thing left to try is BT headset, but that can wait til after Xams.

Hi Bernard,
Be good to see what you think of it.. ESN changes should only take a couple of hours. How come you have to wait so long?
I develop Palm software apps for embedded systems. Mainly bluetooth serial apps, so that Palm's can be used in the field to debug embedded systems. Basically you can add Bletooth support to any product (that has a serial port) using products like Aircable http://www.aircable.net
It's pretty easy really. Just like writting apps for normal serial ports, excepth the ports a virtual.
