Great post - flash isn't a standard and shouldn't be treated as one.
I think the move to micro SIM is due to the unnessecary space the normal sims take. Sim cards are highly inefficient, their are microSD cards the same size of a SIM car which can store 16gb+ of data.
Within the highly competitve mobile market I'm sure engineers are fighting to fit as much as they can into a mobile phone/device. And its not like switching to micro SIM is such a big hassle or has a large financial cost involved.

Google for the FCC tear down of the iPad and all the other tear downs on the internet and you'll see how much space they have. They managed it with the iPhone. They can surly manage it on this upsized iPod touch
Well, the long and the short of it the iPad does have a Micro Sim, so really there isn't anything anyone could do (apart from complain directly to Mr Jobs about it....). From all the forums I have read they did it to make it more difficult to move between providers since the iPad isn't sim locked (from what I have read). Again YMMV
