What are slingshot speeds like, Is anyone with them here ?
For example if you were on the Just Broadband plan, what sort of speeds do you get at peaktimes and what sort of speed inbetween the 2am and 8am free time ?

I used to be on the torrent plan at xnet which is similar and that died after 6pm at night all night basically :-(

On bigtime during the offpeak times I was getting up to 1.2 mbps if I downloaded a high seeded torrent and around 800 kbps on a normal file download.

The other question is.
If we are on a telecom total home package plan, are we able to take just our broadband connection to another isp and stay on the total home package deal without broadband ?

1) Unlimited data & up to 2mbps / 512kbps speed.

2) Unlimted data & Up to 1mbps during the day and FS / FS at night.

3) 25 gb cap & goes down to 512kbps / 512 kbps after cap is used, so net is still useable..

4) 20gb cap for peak hours & 100gb for offpeak hours.

5) 20gb cap for peak hours & unlimited data @ 2mbps max speed at offpeak.

6) Unlimited data & 1mbps speed.

8) 2gb per day then down to 64kbps till 8am when it is reset

Total Home is a package, you wont be able to have Total Home and no broadband

My family use about 60-150GB per month with the odd month hitting 200+. Nowhere near 500GB let alone 1TB!

I was a GoLarge user from the beginning and switched over to BigTime as soon as it was offered, I even started with dial-up on Telecom keeping my same email address for coming on 10 years. Its going to be hard to manage traffic now after so many years not having to worry.

There seems to be an incredible gap in the market from the current upper plans to the BigTime plan and I find it odd that another plan to fill the void hasnt been considered. It would surely keep a great deal of customers happy and attract a whole new client base if there was something on offer that isnt offered at every other ISP.

Unless the move is geared around a revenue gain for a company that has taken a rather large dip in the last year or so, dare I say it ;)

Reading through the various threads here and elswhere on this subject there appears to be a large group of people that fall into the same usage as myself (not greedy vampires) who will be left high and dry because of a "few".

What I would love to see is a 120-150GB plan with a cost that bears some relationship to current plans. Like $119 + $2 per MB for going over cap. It would fill the void in my eyes, generate more income from the BigTime plans current users who would likely go straight to a plan like this AS IT IS NOT JUST A CLONE OF WHAT ALL OTHER ISPs HAVE ON OFFER and help curb the alienated feeling from users similar to myself that have remained loyal to telecom for years.

Being such a secluded country we should not be compared to others for what we have to offer as far as internet service. We should be pioneers. And I believe Telecom has the reputation to be the pioneers as shown with the GoLarge/BigTime plan, just dont try to go all the way in one go, medium steps...

Based on my bigtime usage....

1. unmetered upload (such as they had over the summer).
2. unmetered or fractional metered national traffic (i.e. 1 unit of national traffic == .1 unit of international traffic).
3. offpeak usage either unmetered or fractionally metered as in # 2.
4. normal peak international usage metered as per now.

I kinda of think that the above should apply to all capped plans, because it reflects the different costs associated with different 'types' of data. It also encourages users to 'adjust' any non-essential traffic away from peak time & look for local services. Under bigtime I'd say about 80-90% of my usage would fall under the first three periods.

For an 'unlimited' version 3.0, I'd suggest the following (as stated in the previous BT thread):

The fair use policy could be targeted at those who intentionally and consistently bypass traffic management policies. Perhaps keep tabs on a particular percentage of the top users or a particular factor (say 2 or 10) above the median usage. Not with the intention of cutting them off, but adding additional dynamic shaping if they're ruining the experience of other users??

Drop the word unlimited from bigtime, qualify HTTP traffic with a disclaimer that we'd get 'best effort speed that may be slower than a capped plan', shape peak int. p2p traffic to death (including filehosting sites & VPNs by traffic shaping by port). only offer it to existing Telecom users with the ability to trial it once every three months with the freedom to switch back to an existing capped plan and I'd stay on it with the above rules.

All of these plans look good to me.

I've just looked at Actrix's website again and they have bumped up their 59 dollar plan from 300MB per day to 800MB per day. I think number 8 on Crusader's list is actually quite achievable considering BigTime essentially offered significantly more than that.

If number 6 was offered, I would hop on that. If number 8 was put in to effect I that would probably keep me with Telecom.

Somehow I don't see plans anywere near as good as the above mentioned being executed.

They're all great idea's but the ones id jump for are 1, 2, 3 and possibly 6.

Id definitly love the idea of the 512kbps cap, that means when your capped its still usable but cuts out the big downloading. Its great for some one who wants security from a huge bill. I dont know why more ISP's dont offer it.

Plan A

30GB uncapped upload/download speed as with the Pro plan , Cost $ 59.95

Overage Customer choice either $2 per GB or slow down to 560kbh

Plan B

No Data cap,?uncapped upload/download speed as with the Pro plan, cost $2 per GB

?

Your average Joe can't manage their BW usage (See the latest Target on people going over their caps on vodafone). What do you think will happen with no data cap but just per GB charging?

(Im on xnets fusion with no data cap, but im a geek, so I can manage my usage and just pay for what I use just fine.. average people will just keep going and chew through hundreds of dollars of data)

Looking at whats offered, I would tend to go with the following.

$29.95pm 256Kb/128kb Unlimited with 25Gb softcap. (Go over the softcap twice in 6 months and be automatically upgraded to 30Gb plan)

$49.95pm FS/FS 30GB $2 per GB Over Cap Or 64Kbps Cap

$79.95pm FS/FS 60GB $2 per GB Over Cap Or 64Kbps Cap

$99.95pm FS/FS 80GB $2 per GB Over Cap Or 64Kbps Cap

Telecom have had the pay per gigabyte for ages now. It is $20.00 per gigabyte right now. I'm sure that people once they learn will know how to monitor how much they use.

Besides. What they rack up on data is their issue.

Crazed: Your suggestions are good, but what is the point of an unlimited plan with a 25GB soft cap? I would prefer 20GB at full speed if I had to worry about going over every 6 months.

Do you know how much 1mbit of bandwidth costs? You'd be paying wholesale + profit for whatever that costs..
(Which is about $100 per mbit if you're huge, and $400-500 or $1000 per mbit/s if you're buy less)

So yes, you could get 2mbit/s unlimited data but you'll be paying at least $500/month.. So, going to sign up for that then?

(Note this is just bandwidth, no traffic caps at those prices)

As a family with several computers and a 3 teenagers, I would like to see a BT replacement plan offering 80 gigs managed per month, for around $60, with the option to purchase additional gigs (or slow down), once this limit is reached. I was on Go Large from it's launch and only moved to Big Time when forced to.
After several years of 'unlimited" broadband, i honestly don't know how we will cope if there is no alternitive offered. I have been with telecom ALWAYS and up until now, in spite of the odd problem, I have never considered another ISP. This however may tip me over the edge! Come on Telecom, give loyal, long time users like me an affordable replacement option.

I totally agree with this, I have never used anyone but telecom, if what they say is true and its people using 100's of GB a month that has ruined it why not A) cap it at 100GB or at least bring in an plan that is in the the 50-100gb range which is about the same price. Reality is , its all BS and anyone using over 40gb is costing them money so they want rid of the lot of us.
