If you want broadband/phone run as a public good like roads, are you willing to have a much higher income tax rate or even higher GST to fund this?

Didn't it take 6 months to get a phone line connected back in the 80's.. fingers crossed there weren't too many strikes to hold everything up.

You're obviously totally unaware that wholesale broadband connections are a regulated service - the Commerce Commission sets the price and the conditions of access. You should be contacting them if you see issues with regulated products.

And there is a very good reason for the restrictions on ATM ... things would be chaos without them.
Telecom Retail buy there services off Telecom Wholesale on exactly the same conditions and pricing as everyone else.

so your saying that its fine? are you on a plan which has unlimited offpeak, and due to you being UBA or EUBA you are crapped on in these hours with substandard speeds which make you thinks the ISP is throttling you, when they aren't, as the LLU customers are getting upto 8mbps?

I am sure there are REASONS they do this, but doing it so tightly is making some people have sub standard internet.

As mentioned by previous posters, I know it's not my ISP, as others are getting WICKED speeds, one customer I have spoekn to in teh same area says he has no problems, but they arent on telecom gear, lucky him. Ever since the government forced telecom to unbundle the exchanges, they have started to put in all these restrictions to what, annoy other customers on isps? I bet the restrictions arent there for telecom customers aye... but then again, everyone knows what a rork telecom are..

I have said my peace, I know I am only going to hear about how "Great" telecom are from telecomites so yea, thanks anyway
