joff_nz: No wonder people complain about having to wait in helpdesk queues, they're full of people trying repeatedly to get something they arent entitled to by bullying some poor CSR.

Good job guys.

It's pretty simple, the offer is clearly aimed at gaining new customers, you would have been given a similar offer when you joined Telecom as theres pretty much always something going on.

Why should you get to double dip?

There were no offers way back when this account started extra broadband FYI.

this is a slap in the face!

My post was in reply to the one previous, and where it was headed. Fair enough to call and see what you are entitled to, but not to 'call back later' to try and get something you have just been told you are not entitled to.

And to claim you are going to leave just to try and get something more is sad in my personal opinion. I wish more businesses would stand their ground and maybe we wouldnt have so many people who try and abuse the system.

Just because your sister / cousin / some dude at work got it doesnt always mean Telecom is ready to offer it you too, maybe they have a targeted promotion because there is poor uptake in that area, maybe theres a competitors offer that applies to that neighbourhood or similar.

As for wah wah i've been with x company for ages, I never get anything for my loyalty or my money, you are getting EXACTLY what you are paying for, exactly what is advertised etc. If it is not value for you, then go somewhere else.

I've been driving hondas for ages, I don't get to double my Hondas because of my loyalty, just like I don't get half priced gas because I've always filled up at Mobil. I get exactly what is advertised, $2 (or whatever) for a litre of gas. You are getting EXACTLY what is advertised $x for y Internets.

Meh, I thought my point was pretty clear, thats about al I have to add to this thread

Door to door guy just came by today and offered to double my data 40GB (pro plan) to 80 for the next 12 months for free and with no contract which he noted on the form which I signed. I pressed him for the 'catch' but he insisted there wasn't one. It's got a 7 day right of cancellation so I'll wait a few days for it to get in to the system then ring up an confirm. If all is legit then that's quite good. $80 for 80GB ($1/Gb). Not bad.

Samething that was said to me, just hold on to the contract with the no contract mentioned on it. You'll need to tell them about it and they'll remove the 12 month contract. Well thats what happened in my case.

I just rang telecom today about this and it took awhile for the call center lady to know what I was talking about, but when she transferred me and I heard the kiwi accent, and said is this Homeline Solutions, and heard "Yes, it is", I was very excited.

I explained that I as a WOW gamer along with my husband, had already used up half of our 40gb since our account renewed last Tuesday - and wanted to know how Telecom could help us get more bandwidth.  We are getting a 3rd computer for the kids at Xmas and soon 3 computers would be using up all the bandwidth.  So if 2 machines can't handle 40GB, we would have to find another ISP that could give us more data.

He was very happy to double our data but had to check if I was in the right area.  And now I have 80GB a month for the next 12 months.

So thanks very much for letting us all know about this.  I hope in 12 months time though telecom has bigger data packs, or data addons we can purchase, cuz $2 a gb is quite expenisve.

Now with all the WOW updates before Cataclysm, I can rest easy.

I called, them, but I am in an area that is not eligible for the double data (guess that there is no chance of compettion in our semi-rural area, and we haven't been cabinetised yet - next year).

He did give me a $10 credit on my account every month though, so not a wasted call.

Thanks for the heads-up!

I called up Genesis and explained that I had been with them for several years and was thinking about leaving.
Got them to make my electricity and gas twice as powerful for the next 12 months. Awesome!

Off topic I know but talking about electricity. An interesting fact..

I've just been doing some work at Wairakei thermal power station in taupo.
They told me that only 5% of the power they generate is enough to feed all of taupo, The other 95% is sold back onto the grid @ 5 cents a Kilowatt..
I'm currently paying genesis 21.6 cents a kilowatt..
Someone is making a huge profit in there somewhere !

I rang Telecom this morning About Doubling my data and they originally said That Im not in the area eligible for that promotion (Taradale, Napier). I got a phone call this afternoon from the same Rep saying she had spoken to her manager and They could go ahead and double my usage for 12 months in exchange for a 12month Contract. :D

I received an email offering either to double data, free calls to Australia or a third option (that I have forgotten) all for 12 months.  I choose the double data option. This offer was said to be because I was a loyal customer and it had the condition that I remained a customer for the next 12 months - homeline and broadband. I have had dial up and now broad band with Telecom since it began so I am a loyal customer without doubt. My data went from 40 to 80 overnight. Very happy. I live in Wellington.
