mail2mm: I too use Telecom Xtra as my ISP and have a domain and mail hosted by GoDaddy. I receive mail (POP) from email accounts at xtra.co.nz and my GoDaddy hosted account. I use Outlook Express on an XP machine and Outlook 2007 on a Windows 7 machine. For outgoing mail I used SMTP (Port 25) on the GoDaddy hosted mail account, not Xtra, until several months ago when it stopped working.
I sent an email to GoDaddy and got a one day response similar to yours. I called GoDaddy, using Skype (it is, I think, free for USA 800 numbers) and went through the setup possibilities with a helpful tech.
I now use:
pop.secureserver.net
(Server Port: 110)
and
smtpout.secureserver.net
(Server Port: 3535)
My emails seem to go out just fine on the GoDaddy SMTP server using Xtra as my ISP (ADSL2+). When setting up the outgoing server in Outlook Express and Outlook 2007 it was necessary to check "My server requires authentication" and under Settings-Login information "Use the same settings as my incoming mail server." Under the Advanced tab I set the SMTP port to 3535 and did not check "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)."
Sorry, I can not help with Windows Live Mail. When I tried to stop using Outlook Express I changed to Windows Live Mail. I got so confused with the setup and frustrated with the layout I went back to Outlook Express and added Outlook on a new machine. Good luck.
