I got an email from Vodafone today giving me double minutes for the billing month of December. Kind of pales in comparison to a years worth. Double minutes for December is still a nice surprise though.

Surely any company who is going to offer their customers a christmas gift, will offer it to all customers?

Would seem rather strange that it requires certain eligibility criteria?

This really is a slap in the face for loyal Telecom customers who are not eligible for a particular reason!

Doesn't work for me either.
I wonder what you need to have done to qualify? :/

I tweeted @TelecomNZ to ask what is going on (instead of calling them and ending up with a clueless offshore CSR). I'm sure the mighty Twitter will come to my rescue again, just like it did today when @VodafoneTreats gifted me some tickets to the NZ vs Aus league clash this weekend :-D

Ditto, doesn't work, and I have been a TC cusomter for decades, and also a shareholder.

It does make you feel unimportant when they target these promos to certain cusomters. Just like I was offered 50% off a new newspaper subscription, if I signed up, yet our neighbours who have been subscribers for years pay full price. I think they should be trying to keep all their customers happy with these promos.

its a retention offer thats for sure, retention offers don't tend to go out to everyone as they are generally built based on going out to a certain number (more people it goes to less value in said offer), some people will get it, some won't.

I must admit I'm not 100% clear on the criteria around this particular one.

edit: I am absolutely sure telecom is not alone in doing retention offers either ... if we don't do them we would lose out to competitive offers, do them and it makes people who don't get offered unhappy, hard balance by the marketing team on which way to go I guess

Not sure how this could possibly be a retention offer? Makes loyal customers like me who are never offered anything even more likely to want to switch providers when we hear of offers like this.

Maybe you will keep those customers who have met eligibility for this offer want to stay with Telecom, but will result in many more who are likely to leave.

The best offer a provider can make: Offer it to all, Or dont offer it at all.

The thing about retention offers, is that the people who don't get them, shouldn't really be able to easily find out about them. However when they are on the interent, and people discuss them online, it then creates a problem. It is a bit of a marketing stuff up, in this case it should be offered to everyone who finds out about the website. If I was offered double data to join telecoms broadband for 12 months, I may have taken it, but telecom have never offered it.

Yeah, i'm annoyed now.

I can switch tomorrow if I like. I've been an ADSL customer since 2003 and am not in any current contract.

Bill always paid on time in full.

I phoned Telecom, and the CSR's were not told about this thing. He was going to call me back with more info as to why I do not qualify (fair enough question).

If the answer is unsatisfactory, I'm gonna look at the other ISP's. I was thinking about switching my mobiles / ipad across to telecom too.   This is now on hold.

Can anyone post a copy of the letter? I'd like to see the wording.

I'll put some of the email I received up later tonight. I've been with Telecom for about 4 years, with broadband for the last two as part of a Total Home package. No idea why I was picked especially as I'm often late with my bills (not due to lack of money, just lack of desire to line up at post shop). Funny enough the email went to my spam folder, stroke of luck that I saw it in there.

Ps: don't believe it was offered under the guise of a xmas offer.
