They will not do upgrades cause of congestion over 24 - 48 hours of 365 days in a year

Go get a beer and have a drink and forget about the internet tonight

Would gladly have a beer ( or a walk on the beach) but our influx of large numbers of tourist starts Boxing Day and goes until 10th Jan, Telecom say they are addressing the problem so I wait with hope. If they do get it sorted I think many of the local residents will be switching from satellite to Telecom XP.

XP? I think you mean XT :)

And you may not notice any change until the local population of the area returns to "normal" levels...

Yes Telecom XT, problem when I post too early in the morning on New Year's Day.
Holding up well today, the first day for almost a week, I haven't noticed the connection dropping out all day so far.

The Mount Burnett cell tower near Collingwood is still unusable for a few hours everyday so I have managed to point a second yaggi antenna at Birch Hill near Takaka which seems not to get overloaded despite serving more tourists and Golden Bay locals.

Without knowing the exact setup of a site you're not necesssarily comparing apples with apples. Backhaul into a site can have a significant influence on capacity, as can the number of channel elements. Sites can have different configurations depending on average traffic volumes.

It only takes a very small number of people making heavy use of mobile data to cause a significant reduction in speeds from a site.

Thanks sbiddle, Yes, I know little of the cell sites specs but I am guessing the Takaka site was built to cope with much larger volumes. I intend to point an antenna at each of the two cell towers just to give me some redundancy.
