m1k30rz: So I signed up for Telecom a few months ago, and my IP has never changed. even after restarting my router etc.
I am on the PRO plan, so I called and asked if I can have dynamic IP, and they said everybody new who signs up is stuck on a static IP and it cant be changed.

Why are they doing this?? anyone else have the same problem?

The issue I have with this, is I run a small web server with teamspeak, minecraft and FTP backend to maintain the web server, well according to my logs my IP has been hammered a few times by hackers trying to login as administrator, usually i'd just restart my modem if there was anything like this, to get a change of IP, but now I cant.

Are you using your xtra username in your modem?

Try anything@xtrabb.co.nz with any password and that should negate a static ip assigned via radius.

Works fine on a business pro advanced plan we have at work.

Changing the username will not help in this particular case. Not all users are on the same network.

My views are my own, and may not necessarily represent those of my employer.

BarTender:
Beccara: Didn't they shift something to Manilla?

I think 018 / Yellow Pages is in Manilla, but that's not owned by Telecom anymore.

Some of the back-end services are (or were) offshore, but nothing customer facing from what I understand.

Tier 1 Broadband and International Roaming Help Desk are the two main customer facing ones I can think of. Also some 123 teams are based there.

To the OP; AFAIK you can opt out of static IP, just call the Broadband Help Desk on 0800 538 9872.

That won't work on connections sold since 1 Jan 2010, which is what the OP will be on.

What has changed? I mean what is the difference between the connections now and prior to Jan 10

Telecom retail has to use the same Telecom wholesale services eg: EUBA as other ISP's instead of older "Telecom only" services like FPID.
