No because you we're made aware prior to purchase that this is not the case. Thats what I'm saying, people need to be fully aware of what they are purchasing.

It all depends on the prices of the plans, the value of the plans and the subsidy im looking at receiving as a result of the SIM locking.

Sure most people arent going to switch carriers every nine months but it does lock in people giving it a go on launch for nine months otherwise theyre forced to cough up $30.

Until the pricing of plans and such is released, Ill see it as anti competitive. If the SIM locking does manage an advantage through cheaper handsets and such to the point where 2d/VF cant compete then it will also anti-competitive

codyc1515: I would be fine with it if they made it very, VERY clear that the phones are going to be locked to the XT network. Otherwise, I can see the old "fit for the purpose" Consumer Guarantees Act. getting pulled out. I find it a bit funny that none of the Geekzone Telecom Staff have commented on either of these threads.

There is nothing they could contribute. The brand hasn't officially launched so there would be nothing more to say.

You are kidding me, How the heck did you come to this conclusion?

If I suddenly go out giving everyone under the sun in NZ free phones but they we're locked to my network only and we're not clearly explained that they would be locked and people ported their numbers to me without that knowledge on a network that doesn't work with other networks frequencies (generally speaking). I would argue that would quite possibly be anti-competitive. I can't see Skinny coming out of this unscathed, either by regulatory action or just bad publicity (the media love to bash the telcos).

2degrees wouldn't be doing it if they didn't believe they would win (why else would you?).

OK, i'll stop here but thats just my opinion and that is why I said "if".

umm, If someone gives me a free phone and doesn't clearly explain its locked, then how do I know to port my number over to them?

Wouldn't I just put my sim card in it find it doesn't work then make a decision on whether or not I want to move to skinny and use the free phone or keep using my existing phone and company and just throw away the free phone?

OK, they have since started operations. I'd like to point out that with Warehouse Stationery (at least initially) they did not mention that the phones were locked but they now do mention that, so all is well (for now, at least).

I was always under the impression that the telecos in NZ were not allowed to sell locked phones, which is why none of the handsets we get here are locked. I guess I was wrong.
