nzbnw: Sorry to tell you all this, but this is incorrect, there are various fees to transfer from exsiting plans to these new ones, including the old 1GB promo to the new 1GB plan.

They are as follows:

To new 1GB Plus promo:

$199+GST for customer currently on MB200, 400 and 500 plans
$99+GST for customers currently on MB Flexi, 12, 20, 45, 50, 70, 100
$49+ GST for customers currently on existing 1GB plan

To 200MB Plus promo:
$199+GST for customer currently on MB200, 400 and 500 plans
$99+GST for customers currently on MB Flexi, 12, 20, 45, 50, 70, 100
$49+ GST for customers currently on existing 1GB plan

Unless this is a disconnection fee or a penalty fee, surely the action of changing the plan in the database through a management page is the same regardless of which plan you are coming from. Why difference in fees?

The above is a penalty fee for moving to the new plans if you are still within contract.

As to why, well with the old 1GB promo it was to offer price parity I guess, as you could sign up on a Mobile Broadband (MB) 100 plan for 24months and get a free data card, but it would cost you $199 plus GST for the card on the same term but on the 1GB promo.

As with the new plans it seems of offer price parity also, but all I can say is don’t shoot the messenger, I don’t make the rules I just enforce them!!

chiefie: No offend to anyone, but this is kinda expected as Vodafone has announced their new data plan, and naturally TNZ will match it. Look at what TNZ did when vodafone announce 1GB for $49 few months ago.

TCNZ don't appear to have matched VFNZ - the new TCNZ pricing appears to be ex GST, VF is including GST.

Interesting observation. The cynics among us would probably believe that this is a deliberate attempt to deceive on Telecom's part, but I personally think it's more likely to be a reflection of the fact that Telecom sees this type of product as more likely to appeal to business users, while Vodafone are trying to bring it more into the mainstream.

IIRC, the initial $49/1GB plan wasn't available for Harrier/Apache, but this changed later. Is this applicable?

Yes you can have these plans on PDA's aswell as Data Cards

No I am not sure when they will be on the Telecom site.

The, quote, 'n00b'(s), end quote, at 123/6 have an informer about the new plans, otherwise just vist a Telecom Dealer.

Perhaps to those who rate Michael Moore as a balanced journalist...

Funnily enough, isn't the point of monopoly, duopoly, oligopoly to hold prices "up" by restricting supply, yet mobile data prices have been falling like a stone and mobile data connections and traffic are skyrocketing...

Market competition or nasty capitalist kulaks stealing from the little people?

Draw your own conclusions.

P.S. Interesting to see Vodafone leading on price - unless you've got a fundamental cost advantage (which I doubt given the hugely increased cellsite density implied by European 2100 MHz UMTS) - there's only one reason you'd launch a new product on price.
