andrewcnz:Can't you customer link the old number(the number you like!) before its disconnected? Then sort what voip provider you want to port it to after you move.

What is this "customer link" of which you speak?

Telecom link...

It's one way to hold onto your phone number long enough so you can then port to another provider.

This looks good to me, thanks for the suggestion.

Guess VF will be getting a call from me soon for some BB.

Looks like I'll need to port my cellphone to them as well to get the good price though, bah. :(

gregmcc: Isn't it funny that a phone number can be ported to a VOIP number that could terminate any where in the world, but can be ported to another exchange within the free calling area

Porting is purely the the ability to move a number between providers, and has nothing to do with keep a number when moving between exchanges.

Your other option if you don't want VoIP (the most logical and cheapest option) is to move to TelstraClear if you're in a coverage area, You'll also save money on a standard Telecom landline.

Yep - easiest thing. And when you decide to go VoIP, cable is just about the best thing to be on.... At least until fibre is rolled out and is rock steady, reliable, cheap, doesn't cost $5k to install etc.....

TCL already owe me about $400 in lost time due to them badly mucking me around in the past over 3 separate incidents, I'll not be revisiting them. Interesting given how efficient they were when I was beta-testing the initial cable modem rollout way back when they were still Saturn.

As it is, they won't even stop sending me someone else's notification emails because I don't have authority to change details on the account (well duh...), so they've just been filtered to junk, hope the person has them sent somewhere else as well. (/rant)

Someone at Telecom got a bit overzealous and disconnected my existing number yesterday so had to get that reconnected in the meantime.

Since you already have an account with 2talk why not port your number over to them, then if you shift house again in the future in the same local calling area you wont have to worry about losing the number if you do move to an area on a different exchange. The deal with Vodafone naked broadband is a pretty good saving and well worth changing your mobile phone over to get a $30.00 discount a month on naked broadband and you can port your mobile number over as well.
