Given how stable the current ICS leaks are, an official one for Europe is probably due next month sometime. Given how long it usually takes NZ Telco's to release a localised firmware, I wouldn't expect it here until at least May.

I've had a vast myriad of modem firmware's (at least a dozen different versions) on my SGS2, and I've yet to find one that hasn't worked fine with Telecom.

Cool thanks steve

might just wait if we hear from telecom, however if ICS comes out as a standard (non branded) rom from  sammobile then I might just use Odin to flash the non branded one, (which I hope means I can then get updates when samsung release and not have to wait for a telco).

I just don't think people should have to get to this stage.

This would almost make a great business for someone that likes this kind of thing, sign up a few telco's to do the firmware updates over the life span of a phone.

Just want to add that I updated to ICS today (custom ROM based on XXLPH) and everything works great. But on the stock ICS radio, I noticed a lot of battery drain, and low signal strength (just 1 bar in my house). However, after flashing the radio from the stock 2.3.3 Telecom ROM, the signal strength is back to full, and the battery drain is minimal. Also now that Viber has been updated, ICS is totally worth the upgrade. :)

It might not be the fault of the radio as such. There's 2 issues I've found to be aware of with the current ICS firmwares.

It tends to lose the battery charge status and goes into an "alert" mode which stops the phone going into "deep sleep" mode, resulting in a lot of idle battery drain. You need to completely power the phone off, pull the battery, then plug it back in and _fully_ charge the phone before restarting it. That fixes that problem.

The other is remembering to disable fast dormancy by dialing *#*#9900#*#* and selecting "Disable fast dormancy" from the bottom of the list.

I'm running a "stock" version of LPH with associated modem, and I'm getting fantastic battery life from it.

Well, I've seen this behavior with other 2.3.x ROMs as well. I get a low signal strength and higher battery drain unless I flash the stock Telecom radio.

Also, how would you know if the phone's lost the "charge status"? Does it mean it shows an incorrect percentage or something?

And this is why i am a little worried.  I can look at flashing the telecom radio again but it means trying to find it and flashing it by Odin.

But my point is that we know SG2 is getting ICS, I just want to know that telecom are working on updates for a phone they are still selling with battery drain problems.

They have not said a thing about it after being asked a number of times.

If this was any other product (i.e. car or laptop) you can bet that the problem would have been sorted.

I might flash the voda firmware onto my 9100T, then root to rid the Voda bloat. No harm in trying :-)

There is next to no branding on the handset only a startup logo

The app "BetterBatteryStats" should detailed info on what's stopping the phone from sleeping. The phone will still display roughly the right stats, but the phone loses calibration so it isn't sure what constitutes a "full" charge relative to the specs of the battery. It settles down by itself after a while, or a full charge & reboot will sort it out.

Different radios will work better for different Telco's and in different areas.  If the reception isn't very good then you will get higher battery drain as the phone will try harder to maintain a signal.

Maybe the radio supplied with the Telecom phones has fastdormancy disabled internally somehow - that would account for some improvement. I can't imagine them having a custom radio firmware though.

I can't see what the problem is. I run 2.3.5 on telecom, I updated using kies, with no problems months ago and did my wifes phone as well. I also get about 2 to 3 days life out of the phone, now, its still at 87% at 6pm. I use juicedefender ultimate, but whats $7? Less than a burger.

JuiceDefender basically defeats the purpose of having a smartphone and can drain battery in of itself due to causing Wakelocks.

I totally disagree, even though I have no idea what a wakeboad is. I have used it since I got my phone in May last year. When I bought my wife the same S2 she was down to 30-50s% each night while I was still in the 60-70s%. When I put it on her phone it mirrored my battery levels. Right now, 9pm, I am at 66% and she is at 84, with our phones charged up overnight. we have stock phones and use a number of apps
