As part of RBI a lot of them are going to get replaced with a whole new cabinet. The issue for Chorus is that they need to trench the Fibre to the Cabinet and that takes time and money.

I don't know if your broadband is running off that same location as I couldn't find out where the copper from your house runs. I have a bad feeling it may run via Mahtha so you would be too far up the road from where the fibre is due to be trenched.. But I could be wrong here and all the copper runs down the road to the junction on Notorious West Road.

Currently the Conklin's are running on E1's which is just two copper pair that run a 2MB circuit rather than fibre (well x 3 since I was told that Conklin run 3 stacked E1's). Trenching in fibre is the best long term solution rather than trying to put in a box which you can stack more E1's.

For them to install a new Whisper cabinet with modern equipment and fibre backhual is multiple hundreds of thousand dollars.

They've installed 3,600 or so across the country.

Unfortunately they can't cover everywhere, if there aren't enough people serviced it's not economic for them to replace the conklin. You might be one of the unlucky few that falls through the gaps between the new cabinets and the exchange.

2014? The UFB rollout will be well underway by then. Maybe you'll get UFB first?

I wonder what telecom has planned for their network after UFB saturation? Will Telecom worry about current slow-spots in the face of UFB?

I'd just be happy with 5-7MBs, and I think the entire road that can't get the fiber would be too.

Fiber is going to be great if you can get it...but you know what they say I'd rather have a little something than a whole lot of nothing.

I am sure something will come down the road that extends things further (someday).

You mean Chorus.

Chorus is not part of Telecom any more. Telecom de-merged Chorus into a completely separately owned publicly listed company end of last year.

UFB is not going to cover everyone.. the plan is:

75% covered by UFB (fibre to the home/business/school)
22% covered by RBI ADSL2+/VDSL2 (fibre to the node)
3% covered by RBI mobile broadband or wifi (fibre to a nearby tower)

I should mention

I do wish the Telecom CSR would have mentioned that there was this limitation on the line, when I signed up (May 2011). In fact it got my hopes up by mentioning ADSL2 was coming to my area Sept 2011 (I figured it would be longer but would get here eventually). I figured getting fiber (?), was pretty much a pipe dream...but thinking hey adsl2 is going to be at the house pretty soon, better than 2MBs..so something to look forward to.

Now I have it....yet I can't have it. Which is an really odd feeling.

Not going to dwell on it...if I get more speed down the road...awesome. If not...as we Canadians say...Oh well!

I remember dial-up of 2400 baud modems....3.25MBs is goooodddd.

I think you mean 5-7Mbit/s, not MBs! You definitely won't be getting 5-7MB/s off ADSL1/2.

Right.. I've found out the final answer on it. The current Conklin cabinet you're running off is the DRL/AN cabinet. It's going to be upgraded under the RBI to a ISAM cabinet once the fibre has been trenched to the location and the cabinet replaced with a new one.

As per the Chorus RBI rollout:

RBI Five Year Cabinet Deployment Plan (XLS, 417kB)

DRL/AN Q1 Year 3

You should be getting upgraded sometime in Q1 Year 3 which in theory should be around October 2013 or early 2014. I can't comment as to the exact date as that's up to Chorus but those were the high level target dates I was given and could change without notice.
