freitasm: I think it's time to change my number then. Unfortunately I do not trust mobile operators would put any effort into finding and fixing this kind of stuff (and I am not talking Telecom only).

Why not just change back to your original provider?

I had to use my work Vodafone number in the groupme app installed on my personal lumia 800 telecom to receive and confirm the SMS code. #notcool

feel like the same thing that i can't get my 2 step verification & imessage & facetime & viber activatation before.. can't received those international SMS codes.

At that time mine was brand new sim card from Telecom 027, plambrechtsen was kind enough to help me & find out the reason, he didn't even know Telecom issuing the 0279 those mobile range at all, so might be the they didn't set up those mobile number range properly.

Then next day when it works, I'm getting flooded of those 2 step verifcation sms codes for the whole day that i was tried & never received, and all received in one day.

freitasm: I have a 021 number ported to Telecom XT. Why is it so hard to receive SMS from overseas companies (not spoofing sender  numbers)?

For example I am trying to activate EchoEcho and GroupMe, but the SMS codes never arrive. The first time I activated EchoEcho on another handset they actually sent me the code via email, and said they had problems sending codes to ported numbers in New Zealand.

Why is it so hard?

I have an 027 number ported on 2degrees and I cannot get the GroupMe SMS.  i've had an open ticket with GroupMe, but not getting very far... they have a policy to not authenticate by any other method than SMS.

Ben:
AHA! I just typed in the full number including the zero, so Groupme prompted "64-021xxxxxx" and it came in fine.

LEGENDARY!  I just tried the same thing with GroupMe for my 027 number on degree.  The SMS came through instantly.

Are GroupMe being idiots and not understanding how a international number is dialled?  The '0' is a local operator code.  it has no business being inserted into a mobile number with a 64 already pre-pended.

MF as I know you're always one to follow the process I am sure you've logged a case with 120 about this to see what they say.Undecided

International SMS is a complex beast as Salty and JohnR have posted about in the past and I am no expert on these things.  Especially when Number Portability comes into the mix and the myriad of international SMS interconnect providers.

Perhaps the post should read "Why so hard to get International SMS on ported numbers from providers x y & z"

We try our best to get the Hub providers and international carriers to ensure their HOC's and routing to us is correct/updated however it can be a lengthy process and while they make fix a certain range of numbers there is a new stream of ported numbers that don't work correctly.

The best avenue for a customer is to get the originator of the SMS to log a fault with their overseas carrier. If that doesn't progress then you can log a fault to us with the relevant examples and we will try to get it resolved.

Because they don't meet my criteria.
I rather change a number I have used for thirteen years.

I tried using 021 instead of 21, and only WhatsApp worked. EchoEcho and GroupMe both failed.

0800400909 would be better to log a mobile fault.

I reckon phone numbers will need to move to a dns like system eventually or perhaps they will just become an anachronism and everyone will simply use instant messaging over IP.

Seems to already be consolidation around XMPP.

Google Talk uses XMPP, Facebook chat exposed an interface via XMPP in 2010 and Microsoft for Messenger did the same in Dec 2011.

Concur. I use Mobile verification for my Facebook, and when I ported my voda to 2degrees the texting stopped working.

Adding 0 so the number is +64 0 21 xxxxxxxx works.

Sigh.
