I can't agree with that. Someone here on GZ got it installed at around 18 dB recently (naturally I can't find the post now) and while the download speeds were only about 10 Mb/s, the upload speed was in the megabits. That's a huge improvement if you need to do a lot of uploads!

that was me and it wasn't worth it when i had to pay $30.00 more for it . Speeds weren't bad, i got 19Mb/s down which was 3 Mb/s more than i got on ADSL 2 but the big difference was upload speed where it went from 1Mb/s to 7 Mb/s. I have just reordered VDSL2 and with the deal from Snap i drop $7 a month moving from ADSL 2 to VDSL and i managed to drop my attenuation from 19 to 14dB so will be interested to see what i get now.

Common sense is not as common as you think.

Would anyone be able to better clarify what work the technician does on your property?

The Telecom page says the technician only needs to install a new jackpoint over a period of 1-2 hours. Other posts in this thread have talked about completely isolating the new line so I'm a little bit confused as to exactly what happens! Other than the jackpoint installation will the technician need to knock any other big holes in my walls and ceiling?
My house was built in the early '80s so I assume the wiring is entirely copper if that helps at all.
A Telecom technician also did some minor work on our jackpoints about 5 years ago but I am unsure if he made any changes to our cabling.

Also many of the line attenuation stats people have posted are considerably higher than what mine appear to be, so I am unsure if I am reading them wrong or if I am just looking at wrong page.

Hi, the technician will install a new jack and label it as a DSL port. He may need to run a new cable from this new jack back to the demarc, or he may be able to use an existing pair, all depends on whats existing, but he does need to establish a dedicated pair either via new or existing cabling from this new or dedicated jack to the demarc, where he will install the filter.

Some install the filter in other locations but the required end result is the same.

with that Attenuation your cabinet must be on your front lawn, you are going to get great speeds even if you did nothing but here is what Snap do

All new VDSL connections with Snap now include “Connection & Wiring” installation (previously $402.50) completely free of charge.
A Chorus technician will install a dedicated VDSL compatible splitter at the premise demarcation (the point where services enter the building) and a new data grade cable to the selected DSL jack point within the premises. Please use the “Extra Info” section on the next page if you need to let us know any specific instructions.

You said a naughty word :( - But in reality the Telecom and Snap installations are the same, we both install master filters and give you all the internet.

Really comes down to what team you're on, or what color you like best, I like Blue, blue is pretty awesome, but Orange is pretty awesome too but seems to burn out my retinas if I browse an orange site at night on my laptop, but based on your DP you're team orange, orange sign, the only conclusion is you have burnt retinas. In light to this though I'm very surprised Chorus allowed an install to go through based on your line attenuation.

The cabinet is installed about 75m down the road from me, but I was always a bit unsure about the stats my router was giving me because they seemed to be so much lower than what many other people were getting.

Anyway thanks for the help guys, I will be ordering VDSL next week after payday

actually I think it means Fritzbox = Germanbox, where German = good european quality.

More to this - since this thread is about Telecom VDSL plans I'd recommend you guys to post on Snaps Thread [Here] - In reality though, I own a Fritz!Box and out of all honesty they're good but I find mine heats up to the point it likes to reboot, the Thompson works totally fine and seems to be more reliable than my Fritz (which is on the Fritz), it really comes to personal preference, they're both made in China, they both are at the same pricepoint, our Thompson has more ethernet ports (depending on what Fritz! you go for).

Saying [Product] is better than another [Product]? Let's not turn this into an Apple vs Android thread please.

Mine is about 2 years old now, and it's great, just a shame it overheats and crashes. Not sure on the new ones though. Our Thompson routers don't seem to overheat, melt, or crash all the time like my Fritz!Box does but hey - it's personal preference, they both serve the same purpose in life right? ;)
